I think Symantec has a whole panel of writers who's sole role in life is to change something simple to something more complicated.
They have become really good at it too. Exclamation Exclamation Wink Laughing Laughing

They update their "Norton Removal Tool" used by users and tech's worldwide to remove Norton products from computers, every month or so.

Well, that's OK, but now they've also changed their site.
The short and simple URL no longer takes you to their download page.
To get that, you have to navigate several pages till you finally get HERE:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2007080716174...?Open&a

In addition, there are separate download files for 98/ME or XP/Vista.
So now, every month, I have to download two files instead of just one, as in the past. OH WELL, being able to remove Norton products from new PC's (and a few OLD ones) is well worth the effort involved.

Just thought y'all would like to know! Question Wink

Cheers Mates!

Hello,

I just tried visiting http://www.symantec.com/symnrt/ and the "Download and run the Norton Removal Tool" page was displayed. Perhaps they were doing some site reorganization when you last attempted to access it.

As usual, you jumped to a conclusion and rushed to judgment and totally missed the point I was making.

The full Norton Removal Tool is not on that page, as it used to be.

It's on the page that I posted the link to. Period.

The download buttons for the full Norton Removal Tool is about half way down the page. NO guessing what you should click on. For a tech, you don't want a removal tool for just one thing.....you want the one for everything Norton!

Cool

I wonder if they meant to make the page the new link leads to confusing.

At the top, it says it's for removing the software you got from your ISP.

Then, in step 3, it says it removes all Norton "2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003" products.

Hello,

When I read your message I thought it said something was wrong with the page on Symantec's web site. I visited the URL that I recalled (http://www.symantec.com/symnrt/) and found that it was working. I actually like the new layout of the of the page, I think it makes it easier to figure out which removal tool someone needs to download, especially for nonsophisticated users who might be overwhelmed by a page containing many instructions.

I look at many of the technical messages in the forum (there are some sections I just avoid, though, like the gaming and hijack this log file section) and when I find an interesting question or message thread where I feel I have something to contribute, I do. I am not trying to make you look bad or anyone else look good. As a matter of fact, I am reasonably sure I have specifically mentioned that you brought up a good point or two in some of your recent messages, which I always like to do to emphasize to other forum members when another is contributing something useful. Now, if I do see a message thread that looks like it is going into an area of which is a terms of service violation, I do try to head it off by redirecting the subject to a more appropriate area. If it does not look like that is going to work, though, I will close the message thread. That is something I do not particularly like doing, however, I view myself as a custodian* for the forum and I take that responsibility seriously: I am not going to do my best to avoid any situations which could cause problems (legal or otherwise) for Lockergnome or Chris Pirillo.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

*By custodian, I'm thinking of a person entrusted with responsibility, not a janitor. Of course, some times it feels like the latter.

Yeah, the site as you posted IS working. Rolling Eyes

But unlike its predecessor, it no longer contains the download button for the full "Norton Removal Tool".
That's the point I was trying to make....not very well apparently.

That newly designed page just contains too many options for the person just wanting to get Norton software OFF OF THEIR COMPUTER with as little effort as possible !

When I'm desperate, don't throw a ton of dumb questions at me or give me a whole menu of options.
Give me one button I can click on to solve my problem. It's a good thing!

The page I published does just that. One button, one download and the job is finished. And it's the one tool I need to carry with me in my "Kit".

Actually, in all fairness, there are two buttons, but that shouldn't be too confusing for anyone. One is the removal tool for Windows 98&ME and the other one is the removal tool for XP/Vista.
That shouldn't confuse anyone. Well, almost anyone. Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

And yes......I did download both versions. I'm still finding older 98/ME machines with remnants of Norton on them. The NRT I downloaded a month ago won't work on an ME machine, for instance.
I tried and it failed, giving me an error message.

So now, (thank you Symantec) I have all the tools I need to clean up any of my customer's PC's.

Cheers Mates!
