So does anyone who has been to either of the last two Gnomedex conferences have any great stories to share? We would love to hear them! Perhaps your story will be featured in an edition of Windows Daily...

The best part of the conference was the comraderie of everyone. No one had this "I'm better than you" additude that I almost expected going to a geek conference. It was a pleasant surprise to experience the exact opposite of my expectations. The first major experience with someone at the conference was with Steve Gibson. I sat down on the couch next to him, not noticing who I sat beside and opened my iBook up to start using the wireless internet. The first words out of his mouth to me were "Now that's a f**kin' sexy laptop." Naturally, at first, my reaction was one of awe. But I found it really easy to talk to him. That's the general feeling I got from all of the speakers as well, they were very easy to talk to.

I've been to both previous Gnomedexes, but not necessarily as a geek. Some of the technology presentations were, I'll admit, a little out of my scope, but none-the-less interesting to listen to everyone's viewpoints, and some rather good discussions (i.e. the Napster debate at Gnomedex 1). One of the things that I liked the best was sitting in on the live shows of Online Tonight with David Lawrence. He would have live call-ins and a lot of the time, people right there sitting next to me were the people with the answers. It can be a little awe-inspiring to realize that you're in a room of some the brightest people in computer technology, Donald Brown for one.

I also think that the friendly environment is a great part of Gnomedex. I believe it was one of the first things I noticed when I entered the conference. There seemed to be no boundaries, you felt like you could just go up to pretty much anyone and start a conversation. It was a very open and welcoming group of people.

Last year was my first time attending Gnomedex and it was one of the funnest three days of my life, I met so many great people. My fondest memories would have to be: Meeting Chris and Leo the first night in the bar, the Canadian Beer Bash, All the great speakers and going to Buca De Beppo (seriously, best italian I've ever had). I definitely plan on attending this year, even after my unfortunate ride home. I was about halfway home and my car died. We got stranded in this town of about 200, there wasn't even a gas station that was open. I'm lucky the guy that was riding with me had a cell phone, I don't think there was even a pay phone in the town. We had to wait 4 hours for someone to come and pick us up. We had to tow it home and I was never able to drive it again. Even after all of this I can't wait for this year.
