I have looked high and low, but cannot find how to turn off arrows (>) in the left coumn of email. Is there a setting that does this?

Allo Donrc Smile,

The only way I've discovered, is to turn of the 'Quote Original Message in Reply' option Sad

The arrows are used to show what the original quoted message is and what's new...

If it's of any use to you, there is a handy little utility called 'Ecleaner' which will remove them for you, but you have to cut 'n' paste the message into it first. It strips out all the unwanted junk, including the miles of email addresses that always get tagged onto the start of emails Wink... Once cleaned, it reformats the text fairly well and copies it all back to the clipboard, ready to paste into a clean email... You can DL it from here if wanted Smile...

OH HAIL YES!!!!!

But, my answer only applies if you use Outlook Express because that's the only program I will ever use.

If that's what you're taling about, open O.E.
Click Tools in the upper tool bar.
Click Options
Click Send
Click both "Plain Text Settings" boxes (one at a time please)
UNcheck the last box in the window....it turns off those dam'd arrows.
OK each window as you back out of Options.
Restart O.E. and the next time you forward something there will be NO arrows added to your forwarded eMail.

If you're forwarding an email that already has them dang'd arrows on it......
Copy and paste it into a blank Wordpad document. Use Edit and Replace to replace > with nothing. Replace all to get rid of all the arrows.
Then copy and paste that document into a new email.
Clean up any other problems in the email while you're in Wordpad.

Using Wordpad is much easier if you'll make a shortcut to it and put that shortcut in your Startup menu or Quick Launch toolbar.

Everyone will love you for your Consideration.

Happy 4th, Everyone,
Shadow

There is also a free program called stripmail that does the same. Like the other you have to copy and paste, clean and paste back but it works great!

You can find it here: http://www.dsoft.com.tr/stripmail/

The simpler solution is tell everybody to stop forwarding the poems, jokes, urban legends, the pro Iraq or anti Iraq crap that everyone tries to forward you that you really don't want to read.. Then you don't have to mess with it.

Of course everyone then thinks that you are an a**h*le but hey you get a lot less spam that way. It's worth the trade off. Laughing

My ISP set up their own spam filters to cut down the amount being sent to it's customers, about 6 months ago. Since then, I've received exactly 2 spam mails!!! Not bad in 6 months Laughing...

Mailwasher is another excellent program to clean out emails that you don't want. I went from about 100 a day to four or five a day which I never see.

The spam filters on my ISP's email account is set to block all spam. What email that I do get that is unwanted or junk , I just use the delete feature on. I also do not use or recommend the preview screen. If I don't know the person that sends me mail it goes in the trash.

Check your email Options or Preferences page. Some email accounts let you turn off those stupid arrows when you Forward something as "inline text" or whatever.

To remove the arrows from an email you have received use the excellent simple utility EmailStripper. Get it here: http://www.papercut.biz/emailStripper.htm

Or don't download anything....and just use the excellent editing features of Wordpad which M$ has already given you for free.

It's such a simple process.....why make something difficult out of it?

I agree with Gaucherre. Download Email Stripper. I've been using it for years now, with great results. I should add that at least a dozen friends are now using it after wondering how I got rid of the "arrows".

Do you use the Search or the Search and Replace function in Wordpad for that?

Oops, I just found your instructions above, so please forget my question!

I still think EmailStripper is easier, though!
