"Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver. The application will now terminate ..."

Okay, I just installed the game, and I've really really missed it because I haven't been able to put it on any other computer and this message shows.
It's truly annoying because
1. My computer is Windows 98
2. My computer has no internet connections
3. My parents are not about to buy new software ( I hope it doesn't need it)

Is there anything else I can do to this thing? If so take me through it lightly because I'm not used to installing things on the comp and I get lost. I'm really on the end of my bleeding tether here, so help would be very much smiled at.
Please help me
Boonzie

Hello Boonzie and welcome to Lockergnome!

Quote:
4. Game displays errors when starting such as "Failed to find a Direct X 9.0c compatible graphics adapter" or "Graphic Adapter failure".

This is normally caused by one of two things. Number one would be that the graphics card being used is way out of date and not capable of running the game. Number two would be that the graphics card driver being used is out of date, in this case installing the latest driver should work and as always drivers are available from the manufacturers website.

The supported video cards are:

ATI Radeon™ series (7000 or better)
VE series (see note below)
7000, 7200, 7500
8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
X300, X600, X800

NVIDIA® Quadro™ series
Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

NVIDIA GeForce series (GeForce2 and better)
GeForce 2
GeForce 3, 3 Ti
GeForce 4, 4 Ti, MX 420, 440
GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
GeForce 6600, 6800

Intel® Extreme Graphics

Hello kristen-s and welcome to Lockergnome!

From your specs i've noticed that your graphics card isn't on the support graphics card list for the game. That's more than likely the problem.
You could try updating your drivers from the manufacturers website.

Try updating your drivers first and if that doesn't work then a new graphics/video card is required. However if this is a laptop then a graphics/video card isn't possible.

If the drivers are the newest and it will does run then no it's not going to be possible to run the game. Most developers/publishers don't recommend or support using laptops to play games and I think they should but some sort of disclaimer on the game box to say this.

Hello kellymay77 and welcome to Lockergnome!

First thing to do is update all your drivers (graphics card, sound card and motherboard chipset) which are available from the manufacturers websites.

Try closing all unncessary background tasks, download the latest patch.

(((sigh))) Thank you for attempting to help me with my dilemma!

Alright yesterday I was committed to getting this Game to run! So I did a disk cleanup, scandisk, removed lots of unnecessary extra games (since after I get Sims running I won't have time to play them anyway Laughing )
Defragged, updated my video card, my motherboard and my sound card. I installed the patch to finally shut down and insert disc.....

Splash screen then immediately windows has incurred an error (blah, blah, blah) would I like to send a report. (Sigh) off to do so more searching... any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated Wink

Oh my gosh it started after typing in the -w and -nosound, what's the prob is it my soundcard? I'm computer friendly but not a wiz, I installed my new Nvidia card and more Ram in Dec with no problems. Have had multiple problems with various games and often wondered about my sound card, is it as simple as the video card and what would you recommend to buy?

The -w switch runs the game in windowed mode instead of full screen mode.
This is normally caused by drivers but as you've already updated them then it could be some sort of compatibility issue.

You can run the -w switch for as long as you want. It does slow the game down but a little but at least it works.
