The reboots and crashes could be bad memory, I would download and run Memtest+ > link
To update your graphics card drivers you should go to the Nvidia driver page > link and download the file. To install the drivers run the file and follow the onscreen instructions.
To update your sound card drivers I would need to know the make and model.
To check for the latest windows update you should check the windows update site > link

P.S Overclocking is a technique where you run something at a faster speed then was intended. Graphics card and processors can be overclocked to boost performance but it can lead to damage unless you have good cooling.

So I checked for the windows update, and it says my computer seems up to date.

Yeah, that's what I did for the drivers, I guess i did it right?

Which Memtest thing do I download? There are so many of them!

oh, the patch worked but it did not change anything in the game...

When I'm "installing" the nvidia thing, it claims that certain files are already on my computer and asks if I'd like to overwrite them. Do I say yes to all, or no?

I know I clicked yes to all yesterday. Perhaps it made it worse?

Btw, I don't know if this is important but:
I tried the Directx 3d test again in run < dxdiag < display
And the first test failed, couldn't see the directx cube thing

I tried reinstalling directx from the site but it didn't do anything. I thought it was like a quick installation because it was finished in less than a second..!

Is there any way to uninstall directx completely?

The floppy disk version will do > link
You should overwrite the files.

My father did a memory check a few days ago and said it found no errors...!

Should I reformat?

You should still run a test with the memtest application.
To remove DirectX you could use DirectX-Eradicator, it's got some good reviews, however i've never used it personally.
Reinstalling Windows would be an option to be explored later.

Okay, the directx thing did not work.. i tried twice.

Did the program actually remove DirectX or did the program just not work?

I've found another program that removes DirectX > DirectX 9 Uninstaller

(It just did not do anything at all..)

I tried the program that removes directx with the link you just gave me, but my computer did not recognize the file type (rar)

RAR is a compressed file type, you'll need WinRAR to open it and extract the files. WinRAR is shareware.

Now it's asking me to write my "full patch to your windows 1386 directory"

There's a text file included with the software that gives you instructions.

Hey all well i downloaded sims 2 got installed and everything and it actually starts to till the end of ea sceen then it freezes what should i do heres my specs

CPU: Intel Pentium 3 863GHz
OS: Win XP Pro
RAM: 256MB RAM
Video: NVidia Geforce 4 MX420 64MB RAM
Storage: 20GB Seagate

any help would greatly appreciate

Are all your drivers up to date?
Have you closed all unnecessary background tasks?
Have you downloaded and installed the patch?

hey, it's me again..for the 10000th time..

So I checked in my device manager thing.

there's an exclamation mark next to the nVidia WDM TVTuner
And WDM Video capture(universal)

I tried to click update , and got a lovely "Impossible to continue update, the assistant cannot find a better software for your "périphérique"(french, sorry) than the one that is installed"

I tried reinstalling, but it found an error during installation saying " the driver cannot be installed because it is not numerically signed or not signed correctly"

Or something..

The message would have said that the driver isn't digitally signed.
Do you actually have a TV tuner card in your PC?

Sorry to post another DirectX problem, but I need an answer. I tried downloading the DirectX, and then when i try to load Sims 2, it comes up with that "Failed to find any compatible graphics adapters in this system...blah blah blah....this application will now terminate..." I'm at a loss. Whatever shall i do now?

System: Windows 98
Display adapter: Trident Blade 3D/ MVP4 (63)
C:/ Memory: Free 11.1 GB

....I have absolutely no idea what to post, reply if you need more info!

ps. I dont know where or how to update the adapter or anything...

please help???
