"Cannot locate the DVD-ROM"
"Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, select OK and restart application"

i've tried inserting all 4 discs in both of my cd drive.. my dvd-rom and my burn drive... and it comes up with the same error message every time..
ive tried reinstalling it too.. and that doesnt work..

any suggestions? :(

i'm not sure it this will help at all.. but heres my system.. i've got an intel pentium iii processor, 748 mhz, 512 mb of ram, microsoft xp professional..
my drives are lg cd-rw and liteon dvd-rom.. and my "display adapters" ((haha)) are radeon 9200 se and visiontek xtasy 9200se.

thanks!

This might be a simple fix. My box totally went kaput so I had to reformat. Well re-installed all my apps and re-installed Sims 2.

Now here is the problem. Everything is working fine. The main problem I am having is once I create a sim and go ahead and start the game for one

1. The load screen where it says

Loading Smith family

The picture of my sim does'nt show up in the box.

2. In the actual game the icon boxes where my sims faces should be are'nt there.

Other than that everything is going smoothly.

Any advice. Thanks for the help.

I also have this problem. and still need help.

Welcome to the Lockergnome forums Jigen32!

A lot of issues with the Sims 2 seem to be fixed with the patch, have you downloaded and installed it?

Sims 2 Patch

Also a lot of issues seem to be with graphics cards and their drivers, have you got the latest drivers for your graphics card? and what are your computer specs?

Well I'm not sure of all of my specs. I have a Navia G-force something-or-other graphics card. 80 GB hard dirve. 512 MB ram. I know that it should work because, when I first bought the game it worked fine. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it and this time it isnt working right. So i tried to reinstall it again and still have the same problem. Also I have already installed the patch. No luck.

This video card ,, Video Card GeForce4 MX 440 (64 MB) will not work with Sims 2. I just had to replace that same card on a friends pc with an Asus V9520-X/TD Geforce FX 5200 128MB w/ TV-Out, DVI and it worked fine. But everytime the game was exited the pc would reboot. So then I had to go to the web site for the latest driver updates then all was, and still is well with the game working and the pc working..... Very Happy Very Happy

If it's an Nvidia Geforce series graphics card in your PC, you should update the drivers.

Windows 2000/XP drivers can be downloaded here
Windows 98/ME drivers can be downloaded here

To double check what type of card you've got:

Windows 98/ME
goto start > settings > control panel > system > device manager
click on the + sign next to the display adapters line to expand the tree, once the tree is expanded a line should appear below display adapters which will then display the make and model of the graphics card.

Windows 2000/XP
goto start > control panel > system > hardware > device manager
click on the + sign next to the display adapters line to expand the tree, once the tree is expanded a line should appear below display adapters which will then display the make and model of the graphics card.

I'm also having trouble getting my copy of the sims 2 to work. It tells me that it failed to enumerate any Direct x 9 adapters on my computer, even after I installed Directx 9. I have Windows XP and my "display adapter" is SiS_650_651_M650_740.
Basic PC info: 2.40 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor
512 MB PC2100 DDR
80 GB UltraATA/100

Welcome to the Lockergnome forums Nymphosin17! Smile

I see you've got the good old DirectX error message:

"Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest manufacturer provided driver. The application will now terminate ..."

This is due to your graphics card, the first thing I would try would be to download the latest drivers for it. Download drivers from sis.com.
I would also run dxdiag to check that everything running ok. To run dxdiag goto start > run > type dxdiag and press enter. Once dxdiag is open goto the display tab and run the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests. If after these it still doesn't work you could reinstall Directx and then after that seriously consider upgrading your graphics card.

If i've read your post correctly. you've been in contact with EA support and they've told you to update motherboard drivers, graphics card drivers and directx.

What are your full system specs? (including graphics card make/model)

It says it can't initalize Direct3D so It looks like a problem with DirectX. I think you should run dxdiag. To run dxdiag goto start > run > type dxdiag and press enter. Once dxdiag is open goto the display tab and run the DirectDraw and Direct3D tests.

This forum seems good - hopefully you can help with our version of the Sims2 DirectX.
We are trying to install it on W98SE. The user has 256M of RAM, a new NVDIA Geforce 6 card, 40G HD, 1.3G AMD Athlon.
We got the game to install, but it won't run. Get the error message that it can't find D3D9.dll
I printed out the log from DSsetup, and don't even see that DLL listed. What the log says didn't install is
"Error copying C:\\WINDOWS\TEMP\DX5053.TMP\gchand.dll,error=32"
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
Thanks,
Carpetshark

Welcome to the Lockergnome forums carpetshark!

D3D9.dll is one of the DirectX 9 dll files.

Have you tried reinstalling directx? Link
