| Excuse me for posting a new thread on The Sims 2 - but can anyone else get this game to run without lagging/jamming? It's very annoying because I really enjoyed the little bit of fun I had before the game decides to act up. Subsequently I'm unable to get it to run anymore - all that comes out is the music and a lot of colorful lines on my screen. What's curious about this is all the other comps which I run this game on more than meets the system requirements of the game - but the game usually craps out in much the same way.

| Do you have the latest drivers for your hardware?
Have you tried lowering the the display options for the game?

I'll be getting my DVD copy of the Sims 2 later on this week. What I need to know is what kind of troubles to expect from my machine. So, here's the specs.
- Processor AMD Duron XP 1312 MHz
- Memory 256 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)
- Video Card GeForce4 MX 440 (64 MB)
- System OS Windows XP Pro
- Sound Card Onboard Sound
Personally, my biggest concern is the ram, as it is the absolute minimum for running the game, but if it means my husband has to let me upgrade my memory, then I'm all for it. |

The only thing I can see you having a problem with is the amount of RAM you have. 512MB is recommended for the game but 256MB will be enough to run the game but you will get some slowdown due to the fact it'll be using a lot of virtual memory.
An important thing to remember is to download and install all the latest drivers for your hardware as a lot of the problems people have stem from using out of date drivers. |

This might be a simple fix. My box totally went kaput so I had to reformat. Well re-installed all my apps and re-installed Sims 2.
Now here is the problem. Everything is working fine. The main problem I am having is once I create a sim and go ahead and start the game for one
1. The load screen where it says
Loading Smith family
The picture of my sim does'nt show up in the box.
2. In the actual game the icon boxes where my sims faces should be are'nt there.
Other than that everything is going smoothly.
Any advice. Thanks for the help. |

What is your exact problem?
Are there any error messages?
What version of DirectX were you trying to install?
What are your computers specs?
More info needed! |

I'm running the Sims 2 using a patched .exe file (no-CD), and was wodnering if anyone knew what problems that may cause? Personally, I can't seem to be able to load a game (and yes, I've saved them), nor can I build. Anyone have any workarounds or ideas for this?
Thanks. |

All no cd cracks normally do is to remove the copy protection from games (which is illegal!).
It appears that the no cd crack is preventing you from using build

Game loading is probably because of the same thing.
You should either re-install the game and not use the no cd crack or visit EA Games tech support site. |

Have you installed the latest motherboard chipset drivers? They should be available from the manufacturers website.
Does it give you a filename when it blue screens?
What does it say in event viewer? |

Alright, for something 2 days now I've been trying to get this bloody game to work.
It all has to do with DirectX 9.0c apparenlty and at first it wouldn't even let my computer install the Sims 2 because of an apparent lack of this updated version, after a 15 hour download of the updated version one would hope that it would work now. Well it let me install it, but whenever I try to run the actual game it comes up with a similar error message to the one before, stating,
"The Sims 2: Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."
And then it does so. I've downloaded DirectX 9.0c from microsoft's site and the program downloaded the system files for it, then when I try to install it the window will just stay there and do nothing until I have to resort to Ctr+Alt+Delete to close it.
Any ideas? |

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Do you have the latest drivers for your graphics card?
Do you have the latest drivers for your motherboard?
What graphics card do you have?
The spec of your computer would also be helpful.
If you need help finding out the spec of your computer use Belarc, it will scan your PC and give you a detailed report.

I think that the Diamond Viper is based on the TNT2 cards which aren't capable of running the game.
If you need updated drivers try the Diamond Multimedia website > link |

i cant get the sims 2 to install. it usually asks for my CD-Key and then just stops like its not reading the disk or somthing. my first thought was "well its a bad disk" but i put it on another computer and it installed just fine. once i actually get the game installed i doubt i'll have any trouble since i have a 3 gig processor a gig of DDR2 4200 RAM and a Nvidia 6600 GT. i've got all my drivers that came with my parts installed. i also have directx 9 so i dont know what the problem is... |

Hello and welcome to the Lockergnome forums!
Do you get any error messages?
Have you tried closing all unnecessary background tasks and applications? |
