Help!

So I recently installed the Sims 2 on my sisters new dell studio 1535 laptop. (Has vista home premium 32bit, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 with 256mb vram, 3gb ram, intel c2d 2.5ghz) it installed fine, it loads fine, but everytime i select the neighborhood, no matter which one, it crashes after loading and gives an error saying that The application has crashed. The application will now terminate. No explanation, no idea why. I uninstalled, reinstalled, patched, downloaded the latest drivers, none work. Any suggestions?
