| Server was down for maintenance for about an hour (came back up 10 minutes ago).
Pros: site should be quite a bit faster now
Cons: We had to zap some of the last login info, so you may see some posts as not-read, where you have really read them already. Please use 'mark all topics read' to move forward from that. We apologize but this step was necessary.

It was my understanding that the Status section was placed here to notify a already disturbed membership before the site was taken down, not after.
When it is down we can figure that out for ourselves. Gee CP said it was fast yesterday and it was for about 20 minutes. |

It was supposed to be maintenance while system was live, but then the work dragged the system down, and there was no way to report it after it went down. |

Well when I work on a customer's system and if there is the slightest chance of it going down, I advise the customer. Maybe a little blurb that maint. will be performed at 4:00PM or whatever. An informed crowd is a happy crowd.
This crowd is getting less happy every day.

Huh? I thought geeks worked at 3-4 am or something, as in, let's inconvenience the Europeans, not the Americans. |

It has been in continuous maintenance for the last few days. I only report it if I expect it to be down, otherwise I need to say 'system will be in maintenance for the next xxx days' which kind of has no value. |

This system will be continuously maintained and upgraded -- forever-- to increase performance, and to bring features, etc.
There are quite a few 'static' systems out there. This one will be alive and improving.
There is a price to be paid for that, of course. Once in a while, when upgrading, maintaining, there is a glitch, which then is fixed.
So up to individuals. Everyone is free to be here, or go elsewhere. |

Someone keeps coming back - like the dog you drive out to the woods to get rid of but it still manages to follow you home.
Just kidding, if it weren't for LG you (Gary) wouldn't have anywhere else to let off so much steam. |
