Got a strange problem with Internet Explorer. When I try to sign in on my portfolio on Money Central I get a "Internal Server Error 500" error.
When I Google this I read that this is the websites problem and not my computer. I would believe this except that when I sign in to the site with my wife's computer and my sign in info it works fine.

Anyone familiar with this?

Hello,

Have you made any recent changes to your web browser or the security software on the computer which might affect the connection between the web site and your computer?

got the same thing but on the whole web not just one site.

reinstall firewall with a clean install. let it set up the programs that need access.

that is what seems to have fixed mine. seems i say because it was the last thing i did out of several today.

as in i reinstalled the avg and got the new ie 8 installed.
when i tried to go online after i did the clean install of the firewall.

ie 8 still got the 500 error, but as soon as the other programs started
asking for permission to connect i told it yes always. and one of them let the ie get http server connections.

Goretsky,
Yes, I just changed from Windows 7 back to XP. Did a format and clean install. I also did all updates. I also just installed IE 8.0. All my reading on Google indicates this is a server error, not the local computer. I doubt this since I can get right in on my wife's computer.

Cowboy,
I will give reinstall of IE a try. I don't normally use it for anything else, but since Money Central is Microsoft's site other browsers don't work on it.

Hello,

If your security software proxies the https connection, it can cause them to become malformed. My employer had this trouble with proxying software during its last beta.

Installing the "IE Tab" add-on to Firefox allows it to access most sites that are written for IE, using active x.
Here's the link.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

I've even done MS Updates using I.E. Tab., from within Firefox.

I took my big blue " e " off my desktop a long time ago.

Error: image could not be loaded. Image is not available from server

I install Firefox (latest version) for all my customers and encourage them to only use IE if absolutely necessary.

Cheers!

Doc,
Thanks for the tip. I had forgotten about the IE tab for Firefox. (I use Firefox for everything except sites that only use IE.) It didn't solve the problem, but it did bring up a note from MS that they were aware of the 500 error and were working on it.

Wonder what I would do if I were a rich guy trading stocks every day and was told "well we're working on it. Check back next week". Already lost 20 grand today, but I'll check back in a week?

Same as millions of other people are doing, switch to LINUX & tell little billie g. what he can do with his junk.

--- sorry, just couldn't let that one pass ---

BTW: if you set the settings in the IE tab add-on to use IE's engine, I believe there isn't anything it won't run under FF.

Baby Tux,
I run Ubuntu, but not for stocks. Windows Money Central is the best portfolio manager around whether free or commercial (It's free). If someone would write one even half as good for Ubuntu I might shake Windows for good.

Yeah, if only we could convince those that right the "apps" (& design hardware) to port them to linux...

But I was poking fun more than anything.

Baby Tux,
Wine will port a lot of the Windows programs \, but I don't think Money Central is one of them. I'll check again to be sure.

When I said "port" I meant to run "NATIVE", I HATE running stuff in emulators & VM's (& such as W*I*N*E is none of these - Wine Is Not Emulation) - now I hear tell that in WIN7 in order to run XP apps, it will be VM. - I'll be the first to say "BIG MISTAKE" if it won't run them natively, that tells me M$ has really screwed with the code.
