| Hello,
I am looking for a (free) program/website that can scan my mobo to check how much RAM it can take.
Thanks
El

| To be honest, the most accurate and reliable program for that would be your favorite browser, the internet, and the mobo manufacturer's web site. Look up the specs there, because even if a program could tell you the max memory size, you need to know things like max number of modules, interleaving, memory speed, etc.

www.crucial.com
very well known and accurate. You can either have it scan or put in the brand and model number and it will supply the information.
I've done this for several computers that I added RAM to. Note: I only bought the RAM from crucial once. The other times, I looked for cheaper places. |

Hello,
One thing to keep in mind is that some motherboards need to have a firmware (BIOS) update to recognize the maximum amount of RAM, as they are often developed when or tested with smaller capacity memory modules, and the manufacture may limit the amount of memory recognized to what they can currently verify.

Thank you for the replies. How do I update the BIOS? I already had a computer shop put in more RAM once, so maybe he already did it?

Do as suggested previously. Go to the web site and look at stats. Go to Crucial and see what they say. If they agree, you've probably been "upgraded" (BIOS). You don't really want to mess with the BIOS unless you need to solve a problem! |
