I have the same problem, and I also had original disk with The sims2 installation but expansion packs were not all legal. I downloaded them from internet, all exept the university, thats also legal, and I have on CD but I can't install that eather. I can tell you what I tried, maybe you will have more luck. So first you may have that problem if something isn't legal. If thats not problem you should uninstall all sims2 on your computer, clean temp. internet files, clean registries, scan your computer for any viruses or spywere, close all windows, turn off firewall, or that antivirus program that you used to clean your files. Install the sims2 again and than install patch for your the sims2 game. You can download that patch from orifficial site for sims (http://thesims.ea.com/), it's free, and can fiks some problems, and after that try to install expansions. I know that sounds like hard work, but thats the procedure after you can be sure you done all good, and if you don't be able to install expansion after all, well .... welcome to the club
Sorry, but thats I tried and I still can play just regular the sims2 and expansion for Christmas. I also download new drivers for my graphic card, and make an image for that original cd, try to disable cd-rom and nothing works for me. I hope you have more luck.
