Summary: Rush Limbaugh said that "it is striking how unqualified [Sen. Barack] Obama is and, and how this whole thing came about with, within the Democrat Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy." Limbaugh went on to say: "I think this is a classic illustration here where affirmative action has reared its ugly head against them.

What a racist pig! Ok, now that I got that off my chest ... does he have a point? Let's pretend he said "Nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to an old man". While that's almost as bad, I couldn't think of another anology. Could this really be a big part of why these two rose to the top? I find myself not having a problem saying no to a woman (Clinton), or some rich guy (Romney) but, I don't know ..... a black guy .... and old guy ...... am I actually thinking about something Rush said? AAhhhhhh!!

| That's why I don't listen to extremists - they all like to say crap like that to rile people up.
I actually don't think he has a point, either. I think Obama won because at least 1/2 of Democrats didn't want Clinton back in the White House. And McCain won because the conservatives who didn't want him (who were a majority) split their vote between Romney and Huckabee, giving McCain quite a few states.
Of course, there is something to the not attacking a black man part, though. I think that's also why Hillary and McCain were the butt of so many more jokes than Obama (that was in the news today).

I think you're both wrong this has nothing to do with racism it's about political correctness. Nobody has brought up racism more than Obama.
If someone disagrees with him or points out a flaw in his arguments they are deemed to be racist!
Regardless he is still the least qualified candidate in the running and I don't personally care what color, race or sexual persuasion he is!
McCain doesn't know how many houses he and the wife owns and Obama doesn't know how many states are in the Union. |

Obama and his surrogates have done that. Obama has repeatedly said that his opponents are going to try to scare his potential supporters because he's black. At least once he used the actual word "black" ("Did I mention he's black") and several times he referred to it without using the word, although everyone knew what he meant ("He doesn't look like the guys on the dollar bills.")
I don't think, however, that fear of the racism label is why Obama is the nominee - I think it was fear of Mr. Bill in the White House again! |

He said "They are going to try..." When did he call someone a racist because they disagreed with him or pointed out a flaw in his argument? |

Obama isn't dumb enough to use the word directly. Come on, lets not get stuck in technicalities here. We all know what Obama meant when he said that "they" were going to try to scare you because he's black.
Or does anyone here really think that Obama was talking about his supporters there?
And if you want to be technical, pasquanel never said Obama himself said people are racist when they disagree with Obama, he said "If someone disagrees with him or points out a flaw in his arguments they are deemed to be racist!". His more rabid supporters are more than happy to do that. It's been done here in this forum. I've been accused of racism (and sexism for that matter) right here, and never had an apology for either, despite the lack of evidence (it's hard to prove a falsehood). |

As far as I'm concerned, Obama should have spoken out and said it like it is. "They" are trying to scare people on the basis of race because they know darn will there are people who still fear having a black man who would be President. I'm not talking about card-carrying racists. They wouldn't vote for him anyway.
I'm talking about some people being afraid because we don't talk about race and differences in our cultures enough. That goes for both sides.
I believe Obama would like to explore and expand on the race dialog more between both black and white. It needs doing. But we are too afraid to look inside and examine our own demons. Instead we demonize those who have the courage to approach the subject. |

| So, Mommabear, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, so please correct me if I have this wrong. By saying "they" are going to use race to try to scare people into not voting for Obama, are you saying McCain will do that, or the Republican party? Or do you mean the right wing extremists? Or me? Or someone else? |

| Obama is the only one trying to drag race into this in a desperate attempt to draw attention away from the fact that he is unqualified to be the Commander in Chief! |

How is Obama unqualified? What makes McCain qualified? |

How was that baiting? You said

You accused someone of racism - who is it?
Edit: Is is any less racist when people say they ARE going to vote for Obama just because he's black? I've heard that from people on TV and the radio, and even in papers, but that's somehow OK, despite the fact that they're then discriminating against McCain? |

Come on ... Lincoln was a 1 term Senator from Illinois .... nobody with those qualifications could ever be a good President. |

Just answer the question! There is no baiting here. He wants to know just what the "they" means. |

Abraham Lincoln didn't have his finger on the nuclear trigger, either. |
