Post subject: Ruby and python?

Hi, I'm currently reading about Java but i also had thoughts of reading another language after I'm finished with Java so i wondered if Ruby or Python are really that necessary to learn. i would kindly like to hear some good arguments.

They each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Java has been historically unwieldy in web apps but is coming around. Python as well as Ruby can be used in a wide variety of formats. I'd suggest to start working with a framework such as Rails or Django if you do go with one of those.

All in all, I've typically started working with a new language every couple of years. They usually share many similarities with C/C++ in syntax. I don't necessarily put a new language into production, but I get a feel for its syntax and usage in case I'm ever in the need to use it.

There is much debate on the topic. I have heard that Ruby on Rails is a good language but then again I have personal experience with python and I like it a lot. In fact its probably best to decide on the application before you chose a language.
