| If you hook two routers together, something I don't recommend, you'd need to set one of them to bridge mode. Otherwise, you have two routers with two hardware firewalls. You'd have a terrible time trying to get on the internet.
May I ask why you'd even consider two routers?
The second Dlink router is WBR not WRB.

I fixed the typo.
I found this at another Fourm.
Last summer at the cottage I ran 100' of ethernet cable from the upstairs router down to the lower quarters out back. I plugged into another router there, and then ran a cable from the 2nd router to my computer. No problem. DSL worked fine. Both routers are dual wired/wireless. My laptop detected them both, but since the second was nearer I used that stronger signal for wireless access.
So~ One line. Two routers. Two wireless "networks."
Just remember- Power up in order: Cable/DSL modem, router 1, router 2, computer. |

Hello,
The D-Link WBR-1310 residential gateway is a newer model than the DI-524 and offers 802.11g, which at 54Mbps is a faster Wi-Fi connection than the 802.11b signal provided by the DI-524 (11Mbps).
You may just want to try swapping out the DI-524 with the WBR-1310 and see if the signal now reaches you when you and your laptop go next door.

| I would set the second one up as a wireless access point to extend the network instead of having two networks. |

Well, I found this thread while trying to figure out how to set up my WBR-1310 in bridge mode, as it is paired with my wired DSL modem (using AT&T). Which, apparently, you can't do. BUT, as I was having a ton of trouble syncing it with my non-wireless DSL router, I did resolve the issue by setting up the D-Link WBR-1310 as DHCP connection (even though the DSL modem is set-up via PPOE) AND UNchecking the "Enable DHCP Server" setting on the WBR-1310.
It's worked fine for wireless connection throughout the house since then. |
