Dolphins tailback Ricky Williams now officially has a date with the NFL to appeal a year-long suspension for failing a fourth drug test.

Attorney David Cornwell said Tuesday that the NFL is slated to hear Williams' appeal of the test on April 10 at the league's offices in New York City.

If the appeal fails, Williams will have to miss the 2006 season because he would be categorized as a four-time offender under the league's substance-abuse policy. It's unknown what substance caused Williams to fail his fourth test, but he tested positive for marijuana on three previous occasions.

Because it may be necessary to find another tailback behind starter Ronnie Brown, the Dolphins are hoping to learn the results of Williams' appeal before the NFL draft on April 29 and 30. Williams rushed for 743 yards and six touchdowns in 2005 after missing the first four games serving a drug suspension.
