| Richard Cohen: Bush - yes, Bush - is a liberal
Now before I'm accused of bashing Bush that is not the point of this thread. What I see by Cohen here is what I believe will be the start of many a conservative pundit trying to distance themselves from the President and his policies as the race for president heats up on the Republican side. By branding him (Bush) a liberal the pundits can just blame liberals and draw focus that their guy (whoever they line up behind) as the real conservative. Any thoughts?

| To me the article seemed to be very much a case of rationalisation. Bush stuffs up - let's try to find a liberal slant to that. Oh - he's got a black woman as national security adviser and a Hispanic as attorney-general. It takes more than having a multicultural cabinet to be a liberal. He wanted to get rid of Saddam for a noble reason. That must mean he's a liberal. Codswallop!
When he openly supports women's right to choose what to do with their own bodies. When he comes up with a plan to get affordable health care for all Americans. When he supports equal rights for all members of the community, whether they gay or straight. Maybe then people might start considering him centre of right. But liberal. No way!!!

Exactly and that is my point. I expect to start seeing more and more of this from the pundits and some of the Republican candidates out there. |

| I've been amazed all along over the silence from the Right while Bush has "grown" the government and its impact in our lives...on all fronts...during his terms. |

It looks like poor George doesn't have many friends left. And he's about to lose 2 more. Tony Blair has quit, and John Howard is 99% certain to voted out later this year. It's been joked for quite a while that the British and Aussie Prime Ministers are the only friends George has left in this world. |

Great points! And exactly what needs to be brought up whenever conservatives try to put Liberals and Bush in the same basket. |
