My system has 4 slots for RDRAM currently using 2 x 128 and 2 crimms,
Can i install a pair of 256's for a total of 768 or do the pairs have to be the same size, i.e. another 1 x 128
Thanks

If I remember correctly if they are in pairs and of the same speed then you shouldn't have any problems.

Welcome to the boards klogman. Smile

Yes the crimm (continuity rhambus in-line memory modules) simply provide electrical continuity in your dimm sockets (dual in-line memory modules)

If you are presently running two 128 MBs dimms for a total of 256MBs of RDRAM
random access memory (RAM) you simply need to remove the two Crimms and replace with them with Two (2) 256 dual in-line memory modules for a total of 768MBs (RDRAM) random access memory. Wink

128+128+256+256=768MBs of RAM..

Turn everything off in your system...monitor..tower..speakers...and anything else that is powered.

unplug your tower and insure that you are grounded..hopefully with a wrist strap connected to an unpainted metal portion of your tower box..

If no strap then make sure you plant your feet firmly to floor and then touch an
unpainted portion of the inside of the tower before removing the Crimms and replacing them with your new dual 256MBs memory sticks.

It takes about twenty pounds of pressure to properly seat the new sticks and then insure that you push the thumbclicks back into place therebye properly locking the two new sticks into place. Wink

reconnect your power and power up your machine and the system should recognize your new memory...your performance should triple...

Hope this helps!

Yes, what he said. I've done the same with a Dell I got used (cheap) but the extra RAM cost more than the machine, just make sure that you really need that RAMBUS RAM before you go out and buy it. Smile

Hello,

You should have no trouble installing the new RIMM modules in the motherboard.

To verify they work properly, you may wish to remove the two existing memory modules and install the two new 256MB modules in their place. You can then run a memory test program such as Memtest86 or Microsoft's Windows Memory Diagnostic and see if either reports any problems with the RAM. If not, go ahead and install the original pair of 128MB modules in the second pair of memory slots and you can either re-run the tests if you are concerned about them or start your operating system.

Regards,
