|
|
I ran SFC /scannow after a suggestion to help with another problem and now in many of my system headers and bodies i have a SLOVAK or other eastern European language. For example all of my wireless headers and text are in this language and many more.
I have a legal English installation of XP home with all update on a Dell Inspiron 6000.
I have a clean machine no virus no mal ware etc.
I need help in the registry I think..
PLEASE I cannot read this language. |

| Read this http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

| By default, Windows File Protection is always enabled and allows Windows digitally signed files to replace existing files safely. |
then run sfc /scannow again
If that doesn't work then you'll need to do a clean install of windows.

tried that six times...... no help.
it seems to me that with changes to the registry there must be a way to change the language without a reinstall.
ideas. |

I finally came across someone else who had slovak on some of his computer because of a bad malware infection. One way to fix it was by a Repair install of windows. To do that, you need an OEM or retail version of windows that contains at least SP2 if you are up to date. It can't be done by a restore or recovery disk that came with the computer.
Details on how to do a repair install

The second option is a clean install. |

He had so much trouble with the industry standard repair, "SFC /scannow" that I was reluctant to even suggest the "Unattended Re-Install".
That might make his computer catch on fire!
But for anyone wanting it or needing it. Copy down this procedure:
*************************************************
Re-Installing Windows-XP
If you need to reinstall Windows-XP and want to keep all your current installed applications and settings:
1. Start Windows-XP
2. Find the location of your source files (a folder called "I386" , May Be on Your Install CD or a folder on your HD) You may find several i386 folders on your PC but you want the one that has the .cab files in it along with the command file "Winnt32.exe".
3. Run: WINNT32 /unattend ,,, For example,
D:\I386\winnt32.exe /unattend
(type this command into the RUN box, then press ENTER).... Leave just one space where I've put three for emphasis, at the end of the command and before the switch (/unattend).
I've often needed to do this to repair something that had gotten corrupted and I didn't want to do a clean install. This routine will rewrite all the windows files while leaving your drivers and data alone.
************************************************************************
This routine may not fix the language problem, because I'd say that's a setting in the registry, not a problem with the system files.
As with every fix posted on this forum. Use it at your own risk.
