I purchased a domain and have selected a somapny to host my site. the problem is, i seem to be having major issues with my mail server. every other day i am getting messages saying i am unable to connect to my mail server. i tell my host about it and they are pretty quick to fix the problem.
however, a few hours later the problem happens again.
so my question is........

is there a way for me to use another service for email while keeping my site hosted where it is now? i want to keep the same email address' im using now (me@mysiteurl.com). please tell me there is a way i can do this. Confused

If you can change the MX record with the name registrar then you can use another server for mail. However, have you considered just changing hosts since you're paying for a service that they aren't providing?

Your address can also be aliased, so mail sent to that address is redirected to another mail account. My guess is that your mail is getting there OK, but there's some problem in your ability to access it. I've used free accounts at Hotmail and Yahoo this way as aliased "drop boxes" that I can access from anywhere. You could tell your webhost that you want to do this until they straighten out whatever problems they're having, and it should cost you nothing. You'll need to provide them with an e-mail address that your stuff will be forwarded to.

On a related tangent, I highly recommend something called the "hiveware encoder" for email addresses displayed on websites. It encodes email addresses and keeps bots from harvesting your addresses and sending you spam. It's free to use, and you'll find it if you do a search.

I'd just move hosts. You can move to another host and not have to change your email address or your website address. All that stays the same. You change the company that is running it.
