|
|
I've been using Open Office for a couple of years and never had any problem saving files. After building a lot of important (to me) spreadsheets I now find that I can no longer save my spreadsheets.
When I go to Save As for a spreadsheet I am presented with a dialog box that asks for a name and a file type. I enter a name in the same format that I have been using for two years and the box flickers and remains the same instead of disappearing as before. It does not save the file. Then when I start to close the spreadsheet it asks if I want to save. I reply yes and get the same name dialog box which will not accept the save.
Since all my financial info for the last two years is in this form I need HELLLP!

| What version are you using and what is the extension that you're trying to save the spreadsheet as?

| You could try Portable Open Office (from portableapps.com) and copy/paste into the portable version then try to save. |

silmaril8n,
I have both 2.3 and 2.4. This seemed to start after installing 2.4. I went back to 2.3 but it didn't help.
xavierx,
I'll look at that.

| Rather than doing a SaveAs, are you able to Save normally? |

Save As is, of course, for new files and save is for a file you have altered and neither works. Since it worked fine before and changed when I installed 2.4 it almost has to be a setting somewhere among the dozens that got changed when I installed 2.4. I just don't know which one.

Solved the problem by going back to Excel. Still don't know what caused the problem. Thanks for the posts guys.

| Just happened across this issue on another forum. Check your Java installation and make sure it's functional. Maybe try using a different JRE in OpenOffice settings. Apparently, OO uses Java during the save process so if there is a problem you wouldn't be able to save files. |
