Hello guys can you help me ?

I can gain access to the internet (Internet Explorer & AOL 9) when I first start my PC.

When I have finished i close down the programs (X)

Later on I might want to log on again but am unable to.
Messages I get are "unable to connect"

I have a wireless router but have had this problem with a standard ADSL.

I'm running windows xp sp2

Allo Tonkas and welcome to the Forums Very Happy

I can't help much with a cure for you, I've been having the same/similar thing with my connection too, but as a temporary workaround, rebooting the router cures it for me.

If you have your connection through your network socket as opposed to a USB connection, another temp cure, is to right-click the network connection icon in the system tray, and select 'Repair'. That often kicks things back to life again.

I'll be following this thread, as another more network savvy gnomie will be along with more wisdom Wink

My father-in-law had the same problem, and I found this (after reading his event logs and finding the warning listed):

Quote:
With the release of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Windows XP, the SP2 has introduced a feature that limit concurrent TCP connection attempts that are possible to 10 per seconds.

He could access the internet for a while, and then suddenly wouldn't be able to get anywhere. Turned out that this was his problem, and the patch program at the end of the article fixed it. YMMV, but it's worth a look.
