I have a 2 computer network, using a router, sharing the internet. One PC, the server, is XP, the other is a laptop running win98. I can share files, the printer is "seen" by the laptop.

The problem is, when I print something from the win98 it appears OK on the winXP printer status window, but never gets any further than Status Pending. After about 15-20 seconds it disappears from the XP status window, and win98 shows an error message saying the network is busy.

My guess is some kind of a time-out, because sometimes the file-sharing gets extremely slow...30-60 seconds to save a small word document.

Any help would be appreciated.

You may wish to try this link and use NetBEUI:

http://www.ezlan.net/netbeui.html

You can also Google for the XP driver for NetBEUI as well - make sure you follow the text directions for installation.

And this is another good site for network problems:

http://www.windowsxpatoz.com/cgi-bin/network/index.cgi

Let us know what happens. Wink

Hello Rons:

I installed Netbeui as instructed on XP. Unfortunately my problem still exists. Is there anything needing to be done on th win98 machine? Netbeui is installed there.

I did notice one thing though ... When sending a page to print from win98 to XP, the status of the report in XP shows Spooling, then after a bit shows Spooling - Printing. The printer "wakes up" as though to print (one time it actally printed a little), feeds a sheet of paper, then sits there until the win98 system gets an error message about the printer not being available.

This is weird.
