Quote:
Commentary: Is McCain another George W. Bush?

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Russia invades Georgia and President Bush goes on vacation. Our president has spent one-third of his entire two terms in office either at Camp David, Maryland, or at Crawford, Texas, on vacation.

His time away from the Oval Office included the month leading up to 9/11, when there were signs Osama bin Laden was planning to attack America, and the time Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city of New Orleans.

Sen. John McCain takes weekends off and limits his campaign events to one a day. He made an exception for the religious forum on Saturday at Saddleback Church in Southern California.

I think he made a big mistake. When he was invited last spring to attend a discussion of the role of faith in his life with Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, at Messiah College in Pennsylvania, McCain didn't bother to show up. Now I know why.... It occurs to me that John McCain is as intellectually shallow as our current president. ...

Throughout the evening, McCain chose to recite portions of his stump speech as answers to the questions he was being asked. Why? He has lived 71 years. Surely he has some thoughts on what it all means that go beyond canned answers culled from the same speech he delivers every day. ...

One after another, McCain's answers were shallow, simplistic, and trite. He showed the same intellectual curiosity that George Bush has -- virtually none.

Where are John McCain's writings exploring the vexing moral issues of our time? Where are his position papers setting forth his careful consideration of foreign policy, the welfare state, education, America's moral responsibility in the world, etc., etc., etc.? ...

John McCain graduated 894th in a class of 899 at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. ...His academic record was awful. And it shows over and over again whenever McCain is called upon to think on his feet.

He no longer allows reporters unfettered access to him aboard the "Straight Talk Express" for a reason. He simply makes too many mistakes. ...

I am sick and tired of the president of the United States embarrassing me. The world we live in is too complex to entrust it to someone else whose idea of intellectual curiosity and grasp of foreign policy issues is to tell us he can look into Vladimir Putin's eyes and see into his soul.

George Bush's record as a student, military man, businessman and leader of the free world is one of constant failure. And the part that troubles me most is he seems content with himself. .... Bush goes bumbling along, grinning and spewing moronic one-liners, as though nobody understands what a colossal failure he has been.

I fear to the depth of my being that John McCain is just like him.

We chuckled at Bush's mangling of the English language and excused his ignorance of protocol at State Events. We chuckle when McCain confuses Iraq and Iran, insurgents and al Qaeda; and when he forgets about Czechoslovakia. Instead, we make jokes about Senior Moments. We ignore his own admission that he really knows nothing about economics and the economy. (Assuming, I suppose, that he'll have people in his Administration to help him with that.)

I want a President who isn't simple, and who isn't 100% sure of himself all of the time. I want a President who will think about the gray areas, before committing himself and the country to a course of action, especially in foreign affairs.

Don't you?

Yep, that's why I won't vote for someone who opposes everything Bush did just because it was Bush who did it. I want someone who can think for himself rather than listen to MoveOn.org and other extremists for directions. And I'd rather have a good thinker than a good script-reader.

And I sure as heck don't want another 4 years of Carter!

No we don't need another slow starter like bush,
nor do we need another disastrous military adventurer like bush.

So you agree that we can't afford to have an inexperienced President like Obama? Great, too bad you can't vote!

You Do realize that McCain has voted in sync with Bush 100% of the time over the past year? And you're looking for someone that can think for themselves?

I was impressed with the way McCain chastized Obama for being "Too Presidential" on his European visit. Then when on and gave a very Presidential sounding speech condemming Russia for invading Georgia. Using phrases like "In the 21st century, you don't invade soverign nations". Which is the EXACT phrase that Bush used. There's your "thinking for yourself". I'm not even going to get into their short-trem memory loss.

Have you looked at what has happened? McCain hasn't been "voting in sync with Bush" - Bush has shifted his positions to align to McCain!

That's not going into it, pulling a hit-and-run attack?

Fine, then I won't mention someone who doesn't even know how many states we have. And y'all say Bush is dumb!

So you're equating us invading a soverign nation with Obama confusing the cities he visited with the states he visited? Both Bush and McCain forgot that we did the very same thing ...... twice, and that's the same as forgetting how many states you visited?

Obama didn't "confuse the cities with states" he'd visited. He very clearly said that he'd visited 57 states, with one to go, and that he wasn't allowed to visit Hawaii or Alaska. He messed up, just like every one else.

And if your "short term memory loss" wasn't another attack on McCain's age, then I apologize - that's sure what it looked like when I read it.
