| I remember finding pork tenderloin sandwiches all over the midwest during the 50s and 60s. Seems they may be a vanishing American food tradition.
And good sources near Gnomedex? If it's REALLY good, 50 miles would be "near" enough!

| If I'm remembering correctly - we had a great pork tenderloin sandwich at Burger King of all places while driving thru Iowa two years ago. Thought it was a new Burger King offering til we got home and the local BK thought we were nuts when we asked about it...

I think BK still has that here. I always assumed it was a national item. A personal favorite is Casey's General Store, a local convenience store chain.
I worked there in high school and we would cook the tenderloin halfway in the frier, then put pizza toppings on it and run it through the oven halfway. We'd load it up and call it an artery-buster. None of us could ever finish it in one sitting. If you ask for one, though, nobody there will know what you're talking about. Just a bunch of employees making personal food.
Another favorite is the Drake Diner. This is a 50's and 60's style diner that also makes awesome malts! IMHO, the best malts in Des Moines, but that is one topic that can be debated! |

Yeah, back in high school days (82-83) we did that at McDonald's with a salad. A few years later,... |

Interestingly enough, the Casey's convenience store chain is owned by Don Lamberti, a member of Chris's extended family (his grandpa's cousin). :D
More on the tenderloin, though... I think you can also get them at George the Chili King, or the Kirkwood Cafe (which is downtown, on the ground floor of the Kirkwood Hotel). |
