I have an ever so reliable Palm m515 that's going on its fourth birthday soon; apparently, that must be about 400 in dog years as the built-in battery ain't what it used to be (some of us at Oxford use 'ain't').

While I've only used about half of the original 16MB of storage, I did buy a 64MB card and would like to know how (if at all) I could move all of my data/programs from the original 16MB 'memory' to the 64MB card.

If that's possible, would I then be able to transfer (?) any of that 64MB card data to a newer model and, yes, I'm open for suggestions provided it's "the next generation" in the Palm series.

Thanks for the insights!

Hello,

It has been several years since I've used a Palm PDA, but I seem to recall being able to transfer all my data over to a new unit simply by plugging the new unit in and running the Palm HotSync application as I normally would. I do not recall whether third-party applications were transferred over, but this did get all the data from the embedded applications such as the Address Book and the To-Do List from the old PDA to the new one.

Regards,

Thanks, Aryeh... I'm looking at the Zire 72 as a possible replacement.

At any rate, are you saying that if I were to setup/install the Zire 72 that 'everything' would transfer as if I did a HotSync with the m515

Now that you mention it, I'd probably have to have the third-party install files available for the newer unit (?)

If all this is true, it's almost too easy

Thanks for your advice!

Palm does not back up everything. Espcially if you have thrid party apps. I use backupbuddy http://www.bluenomad.com/bb/prod_backupbuddy_details.html Works great and makes perfect clone backups.

Think also to change your user name or to carefully synchr and use third party programs. Some may work weel, some can cause a hard reset.
Advice. Install working third app from an older palm on a new palm carefully, one after one and test it. Be careful with app working in the background, you can go in a loop with the palm logo on screen each time you open the palm. The only reel way to go througth is the hard reset. Sometimes a warm reset can help you and you can then delete the soft, but a normal reset can't help
