Does anyone out there know a painless way of deleting this file without having to go into the registry?

Thanks

cliffk, Hi :)

The best and safest way to get rid of it is to download AdAware6 181 . It will scan and remove all unwelcome objects you may have. Once installed , it´s very important to run the "webupdate" from the main panel to get the current reference file ,which is 01R21501.09.2003 .

Then........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and tick "Automaticly try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now "scan.

When scan is finished, mark everything found and get rid of it.

After your scan with AdAware, please download HiJack This
It´s a zipped file, just doubleclick and hit "scan". When scan is finished a log-file will be produced.Save it somewhere and copy it and past it here and you´ll be helped to interprete it.Don´t "fix" anything of your own when most of the content are harmless and imperative for your system.

Spybot will pick up anything that Ad-aware doesn't .Best thing is, they're both free programs ( I us 'em )

Personally, I like Spybot S&D. Whatever program you use, you should definitely use one of them. Spyware and other programs like them are a big problem. Go to SpywareInfo.com for more information (read the article on lop.com here).

Die Hard, it is up for dispute that AdAware is the "best and safest" program for doing this (I will not argue about this right now). I would agree that it is a good program, but don't you think it would be a good idea to mention that you work for Lavasoft, makers of AdAware?

i find that i must use both... each gets stuff the other one misses; though spybot catches more stuff than adaware-- for me anyways.

I don't see how that is a problem, as there is a patch for it.

Quote:
Update (May 7th): the reason for this hang is a corrupted file, located either in the Temp or in the Application Data folder. There is an update available that can deal with this problem; if you check for updates, be sure to download the one named File check library. Or download the manual updater if you don't want to use the update function.
