I have a website http://bearbottoms1.com I used Komposer (freeware) to construct the page. Under the tools menu of Komposer, I can validate the content with W3C Markup Validation Service. It gives me 1,100 errors on one page.

I used a freeware program CSE HTML Validator Lite to check the page and it gave me about 30 items to fix, which I fixed. It now says it finds about 20 other items that the lite version can't fix and wants me to purchase their payware. I don't think so, considering what W3C says.

Is there a freeware program or service that I can use to help me clean my webpage. I have basic HTML skills, though I get by.

I wish that I could help more with this but as I write code strictly from scratch with standards in mind, I've never had to clean up old code. However, I've seen some things that might aide in your quest for standards-compliant html.

The program is called HTML Tidy and while I can't vouch for it directly, it may get you on the right track. You may just end up doing large amounts of rewriting if it doesn't work, but make sure to backup everything before you mess with it!

I believe that HTML-Kit also integrates this feature:

Thanks silmaril8n. I'm slowly working on it. I'm going to go through every one and clean it by "hand." That thought was in the back of my head, but was a rather daunting thought for me. You've helped me get over it.

My wife is from Moncton, and when I told her you (the guru who came up with the fix for my redirection issue) was from Vancover...she purred. Made her day.

Happy Thanksgiving.
