Hello,
Judging from what I read (a quick search for Mr. Stanley and his web site revealed several articles), it appears the guilty party ran a tracker site which specialized in copyrighted material.
While this means he only abetted the copyright infringement, as opposed to say, hosting the files themselves, he was probably of more interest to the MPAA, RIAA, BSA and other trade associations like these than simple home users.
