I recently had a problem with my OS (XP Media...) and had to restore the OS from the recovery CD; and then reinstall the programs from my back up. Computer is a Sony RB52, 2.8MH dual core, and 2GH of Ram.
Now the OE program opens extremely slow, and after it is open, when you left click on a msg, or some other feature, the program locks up. When I open the Task Mgr(Processes), the msimn.exe file is consuming over 50% of the CPU. After some period of time, the designate function, that has been double clicked, will some time s finally appear, and the msimn.exe process is at, or near zero; if I double click on some other feature in the program again, then the same thing occurs....
Any help.....????.

Hello,

Do any other programs which use the Internet connection perform slowly as well, or is it just your email client?

Have you downloaded and installed all of the updates available from Microsoft's Windows Update service yet? If not, doing so may resolve the issue.

Another thing to do is make sure your security software is properly installed, especially if you installed a different one than was pre-loaded on the computer. You would want to make sure it is up to date as well.

It's hard to tell right now if you may have other things going on with OE, but one of the first culprits to get rid of in OE is the Windows Messenger Service. It is notorious for slowing down and messing up OE.

i'll go one step farther get rid of outlook express and use outlook if you have it. until microsoft gets their latest release of windows live mail working proper. then get it.
or get "the bat." or some other third party email client.

but in order to get you going now mommabears tip was just for one service.

there is a new tweaking program out that works on xp and vista.

you can get it at majorgeeks.com and its free.

very simple to use interface. but the program has a service manager feature in it. and it tells you what each service is for and if it or anything else depends on that service being used.

you can in there find and turn off any that you don't use or turn them on if they are off and you use them. just be careful because if you turn off the wrong one you might not get windows to boot.

the program is called "MZ Ultimate Tweaker"

lots of things to tweak in there..

check that out, also since you had to do a recover. get the free program called " RegScrubVistaXp " it works as the name says on vista and xp,
and it will deep clean the registry to get rid of the bad hotkeys in it that are there after every recovery. and it also has a registry defragmenter with it. and some more tweaks.
its also on majorgeeks.com

but after a recovery of the system you can count on doing about 4 to 10 hours of updates from windows update site depending on if you have dial up or dsl.

if you have dial up you might end up with 20 hours or so for one update if you have to download service pack 3 again. thats 330 mbs.

Cool

you could also remove OE via add remove programs > windows components > OE
restart then via the above install OE again and see if that gives any improvement …
