Hi

I am using outlook express 6 and the question I have is this:
Sometimes when I log on, the pop up window appears and tells me I'm receiving mail. The window disappears and when I go to my inbox, I cant see the new message. It's just not there!

By the way, I use remote access to various wireless networks as I am on the move quite a bit.

Can you tell me what my problem is? Thank you.

Outlook Express is for XP and Live Mail is for Vista.

Apples and oranges!

If you have blocked an ISP or certain email and it comes in, it's sent to the deleted items folder, so you'll never see it in your In-Box, but the announcement still says that you have new mail.

I get that a lot, because I've got over 200 names in my Blocked Sender List.

When you get something like that, look in your Deleted Items Folder.

You say that it only happens sometimes. Does that mean that those missing messages eventually show up during a subsequent check, or that they get lost forever?

I have seen occasions where OE6 will download the same messages and error out ignoring the rest. In this case you should log into the web email for your isp and delete the "problem" message. Then OE6 will get all waiting messages.

You also might want to try compacting your folders (under File--Folder).

Thanks for your responses! Docwho7 thanks, that's what it was.

I have many on my blocked senders list and I was receiving mails from people on that list which were going straight into my deleted items folder. I never thought of checking that folder.

thanks again

I would expect nothing less....... Twisted Evil

Just a "by the way" the email program that comes with Vista, nowadays, also has a "Junk Mail" filter. So it's a good thing to check that "Junk Mail" folder every once in a while to see if a letter from "Mom" was incorrectly diverted there.

I just found that, when I set up a new Vista PC for one of my customers last week. They get about forty emails a day and many are spam or JUNK.
Individual eMails in that folder can be set to "NOT Junk Mail" and it will never be put in that folder again.

Many problems that I've seen in all of MS's email programs is that folks never clean out their Deleted items or sent mail folders. Things may go along just fine for a while, but eventually this glut of old mail can cause problems.

I check my own email folders weekly (not, weakly) to see if they are getting "loaded" with old mail.

It's a pretty simple process to clean them out.

Cheers Mates! (yes, you too RC)

yepper i too keep it all cleaned out.
and when it wants to clean up its record of email you saved because you deleted so much of it that its record index is out of sync, i also let it do that.

so this new program not taking hold of the contacts and keeping them is not because of anything done wrong here it is a program error.

some where the people at m$ forgot to dot their I's and cross their T's.
