Hi! Am a totale n00b with this rss stuff. Maybe a little thick between the ears Very Happy I went to download one of the feeds recomended on the gnomie site, and it does't say anything about compatibility with opera. Can anyone help me with this and maybe a little more insite to rss,( with a little less geek speek)? Thank-you for your time, LeRoy.

Hi and welcome to the RSS forum.
Let me try to explain RSS in laymans terms.
Lets say that everyday I visit Chris Pirillo's blog- chris.pirillo.com
Because I have no way of knowing when Chris updates his blog, 75% of the time I visit the site, it has not changed since the last time I visited. Bummer.
Now imagine that not only do I visit chris.pirillo.com, but that I also visit thirty other websites. Once again, I have no way of knowing when they have changed, and I find that by the end of the day I have wasted a lot of time and bandwidth visiting sites and not getting any new information from them. Double bummer.
So here is where RSS comes in.
I download a program called an "aggregator" In this aggregator I "subscribe" to "RSS Feeds". The aggregator and the feed work together to tell me that the website has updated. Furthermore, most feeds work in a way that allows me to read the most recent update off the website right in the aggregator, without having to go to my browser and load the entire page. Thus, every time chris updates his blog, my aggregator loads the latest post off the RSS feed and shows it to me.
Because an aggregator is a seperate program, compatibility with your browser, Opera, is not an issue.
Search the forums for recommendations of aggregators to use. If you are just starting off, and not sure if you will stick with this, you might want to try an online-based aggregator first.
Hopefully this helps, ask questions if anything I said didnt make sense or needs more clarification.

Nicely said Michael. Thank you.

I wouldn't worry about Opera versus IE. The browser isn't relevant. Even for Aggregators which embed a browser, all Windows machines have IE on them so they'll work just fine even if Opera is the default browser.

Very Happy Thank-you for your prompt response! Even though I just read it. I don't have much time when I'm on shift, so I have lots to read/answer when I'm off. Your answers have helped and will give this rss thing a try! Again, thanks, LeRoy.
