| I'm curious, what is your opinion on nuclear power? Safe? Unsafe?

| now that Obama's for it, I'm for it. Just kidding.
I think we need to build more. I don't think there's been a nuclear plant built in 30 years. People always complain that they're unsafe. Can you imagine how much duct tape is employed in fixingan old plant? Nuclear power plants built today have to be 100 times safer than the ones from 30 years ago. I say, build new ones so we can take those old unsafe ones off line at least.

| The U.S. Navy has been using nuclear power for a long time now and they haven't had any problems with it. Other than Three Mile Island, there have been no other meltdowns on U.S. soil. I support nuclear energy. I think the coal plants are more dangerous than nuclear ones. |

And 3 mile island wasn't even really a meltdown. |

In fact, at three mile island, there was a panoply of bad decisions made by the human operators, failure of some non nuclear components, and a resulting melting of the core. But not one single human adverse effect has ever been documented. And that is because of excellent engineering.
The real tragedy of TMI is that it led to a 30 year moratorium on further developing and building safe nuclear reactors.
And the breeder reactor project was stopped, which is a pity because it would have solved the Uranium waste disposal problem: turn it into more fuel. |
