Clif Notes Newsletter, Feb 2007 http://freewarewiki.com/ClifNotes

"The COOLSITES Newsletter - find the coolest links here. This fella named Mark Donaldson has been sending out his lists of cool sites since 2003. I'd never heard of him before last week. One day I was Googling myself to see who was posting links to my newsletter, and I found his website. I guess he's mentioned my newsletter at least 3 times. I like the COOLSITES website too, but I think it could use some reformatting to make it a bit easier to read. What I really like is the content there. Mark must really read a lot of stuff on the web and he takes the best links then tells you about them." http://freewarewiki.com/CoolSitesNewsletter

National Cyber Alert System Cyber Security Alert SA07-310A Apple QuickTime Updates for Multiple Vulnerabilities Original release date: November 6, 2007 Source: US-CERT Systems Affected: Vulnerabilities in Apple QuickTime affect * Apple Mac OS X * Microsoft Windows Overview: Apple has released Apple QuickTime 7.3 to correct several vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to gain access to your computer. Solution: Upgrade QuickTime. Believe it

There has been some interest in Otartel.com. They sell brand name gift cards at a discount. How can they do this? Two reasons, they are still making a profit and even if they weren't they just want to get you into the store like any loss-leader sale. A loss-leader sale is designed to get you into the store with a price on an item that is below cost. The store takes a loss on that item hoping you are going to buy other things also and they will make a profit. I buy all of my meats on loss-leader sales but never buy other items (the stores hate me).

Otartel.com sells gift cards at a 10% to 30% discount and since most profit margins are above 40% they still make a profit. The only info on the web, that is negative about them, is people who can't believe they are doing this. Mark.

I still don't know whats going on

I wrote last week about the problems I was having with Spybot Search And Destroy. It wouldn't start after I updated it even though task manager said it was running. Spybots long load times after update is a known issue ( Spybot Takes a Longtime To Lodeup HELP!! - Safer Networking Forums: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=19512 ) and can be solved with their beta version ( spybotsd15he-beta1.exe: http://www.safer-networking.org/files/beta/spybotsd15he-beta1.exe ). My problem was it wouldn't load at all. CPU was idle while task manager said it was loaded but I had no interface. I started Spybot and was about to start Process Xplorer when Spybot worked like it's supposed to. I've used it twice and it's running fine. I didn't do anything to fix it so I don't know why I had this problem. I guess the computer fairies took pity on me and let it run. Mark.
