| Post updated to reflect where a current version might be found
http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_d4749.html
I'm pretty sure that the Major keeps the downloads updated with the newest version; if you aren't sure, you can click on the word Symantec aside of the word Author and you will be redirected to the latest tool at their site.

PM received for the OP.

| Thanks, but it doesn't work. I have been trying that link for over a week now. I reported it to the Norton help desk too. |
It is always better to post in the forum if something is not working, rather than send a PM because lots of people search and try links.
I went to the link I posted on 30 Sept. 2009. There are 13 different Norton products. I clicked each of the 13 links. All worked. Twelve of the links took me to a page with instructions and on step 3 or 4 there is a download link. Since I am on a windows 2000 computer, I used the link for that. I downloaded the Norton Removal once just to see if it would download. It did. It is under 800kb and downloads fast.
Check your computer to be sure it is not hiding. It may have downloaded so fast that you missed it.
Search for Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
The link for Norton SystemWorks 12.0 takes you to a page where you have to select again.
If it isn't working for you, then you need to check the settings on your computer.
Here is another link for the removal tool
http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_d4749.html
under downloads, do not click the author's site, since for you, it appears to not work. Click on MajorGeeks USA or USA2 or if you are not close to the US then use the Internode link in Australia. |

Things like that do seem to move around, so a Google search is usually the best choice.
"The Geek" site crashed early in the summer and in the rebuild, the Norton removal tool got left out.
The Major Geeks site worked like a champ.
Cheers mates!

If you're someone who would use the Norton Removal tool, often, like I do, you will need to update it often.
If you try to run a NRT that is a month or so old, a message will pop up and tell you that the NRT you're trying to use is out of date.
And they will prompt you to download the latest version.
So I check for the latest version, at least once a month.
Cheers Mates!

Hello,
Does http://www.symantec.com/symnrt/ still redirect to the latest version of the Symantec Norton Removal Tool on Symantec's web site?
Another uninstaller you might want to try is OPSWAT's AppRemover. OPSWAT is a company which is primarily know for their SDKs to integrate various network utility and security management tools together, and AppRemover claims to remove about three dozen different security packages. I have no idea how effective it is, but it is a small download and might be handy to keep around if normal uninstall procedures do not work.
Regards,

The NRT used to be comprised of three files:
1. a batch file to UN-Register the Norton DLL files.
2. a registry script to remove 1891 registry entries
3. and an Executable to actually UN-Install the program files.
Even after all that, you usually had to remove the program folders manually.
Now-a-days, the NRT is all in one program.
But it's usually only good for about one month, and downloading updated versions is required if you use the program as often as I do.
Cheers mates!
