ABC Sport - Sport - Schumacher to quit Formula One
| Quote: |
Michael Schumacher, the most successful Formula One driver of all time, is retiring from the sport at the end of the season.
The German seven-time world champion made the announcement after winning the Italian Grand Prix to reduce rival Fernando Alonso's championship lead to just two points.
Alonso failed to finish the race due to engine problems with nine laps to go.
"All these years in Formula One have been amazing, especially those spent alongside my friends in the Scuderia [Ferrari]," Schumacher said in a statement.
"Soon my future will belong to my family, while I am happy to be still part of Ferrari.
"But for now, what matters is this world championship." |
Quite an amazing record. At least now someone else will get a chance at being World Champion |

| Sad to see him go. He's one of my favourite F1 drivers. I hope he ends up winning the championship this year and go out on a high note.

His last drive in Brazil will be viewed for decades. The best ever. Riping through the field to catch up the the top drivers. We will miss him.
The record shows the best so far. |

I saw Brazil race! Shumi was superb!!!!! Alonso drove like a bus driver!
It makes me sad about his retiring. I wish him good luck in his new life.

Well, at least he's taken up an advisory role in Ferrari, which means that Schumi is not completely out of the F1 scene yet.
Future team boss maybe? |
