In switching back to XP from Win 7 my home network broke. Of course! Windows networks break whenever you make any change do they not?

So, three computers in a wired network. Cable modem. Main computer, Zonet Wired router, wife's computer, basement computer. Main and wife's can see each other and access each other. Main can see basement, but not access. Wife's cannot see basement. Basement can only see itself.

Error: The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer XXXXX that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{66CA5BBD-076E-41. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

I assumed this was the main computer and the basement arguing over who is boss. Turned off the Master Browser service on the basement. Didn't change anything except no Master Browser error.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Try restarting all the computers now that the master browser has been disabled. Does that make any difference?

Aryeh,
Restarting did not make a difference. I ran the Network Setup program again and now cannot even see the basement computer from either of the other two. Also my wife's computer cannot print to the network printer. It sees the printer and sends to the printer but a blank sheet comes out. Basement computer does not see the other two and cannot print to the network printer.

Problem solved!..maybe.

I found a program (Cisco Network Magic Pro) that seems to be the answer. It's free to try for one week. It took care of network setup with no fooling with master browser or protocols or any of that stuff. I'll use it for a week and if I decide to buy it ($23 for three computers) I'll post back.

There was once a free program called All Aboard that did the same thing, but they went out of business and I couldn't get an upgrade for XP.

Problem is indeed solved. I used the Cisco Net Magic program for a week and found it to take care of all my network problems with ease. I purchased it for $23 (for 3 computers) and was glad to get it.
I will back it up in three different places and never again struggle with setting up a network. Razz
