This is not a replacement for the Problem Solvers, rather an augmentation - where you can make money with the answers you provide (or ask questions, naturally). First 200 people who sign up get $5 in their account - so don't delay. Wink

OK, now I understand even more why I quit reading and helping out in this
forum since 10/10/2005!
This idea is money-hungry (virtual or IRL: in essence, it's the same thing!) and very self-minded!

Try to give advice to your friends and close relatives, kids and family and
in return, ask them for money. If you succeed in doing this, you will gain a
lot of money.
But I can't help you with the fact that all those people are going to turn
their backs on you or start asking money whenever they give you advice.

Why don't you start making petitions to ban all computer clubs and LUG's,
because, well, they give advice to their members... FREE...............

This makes me sick. You should start looking elsewhere and start developing
some common sense!!!

So you haven't helped anyone here for two months, yet you do post back to complain about an option Lockergnome is providing people who may wish to take advantage of it? I find that hard to understand.

Yes, there is an element of profit to this. Is being profitable on the Web a negative? Have you never paid for software you found useful?

This option isn't going to replace the forum. The forum offers free advice to those who request it. But perhaps you've asked a question here that has stumped the members, or received responses that didn't solve the problem or can't find an expert in a particular field here. Instead of leaving you to wander the net in search of a better answer, Lockergnome is providing another venue to get your problem solved. Because we're asking people with advanced knowledge in their fields questions that are beyond the ordinary and will most likely require some research, we feel it's only right to offer them some agreed-upon compensation.

I fix people's computers. I don't do anything anyone else could do with the same training and experience. I have that, they don't. So they're willing to pay me to do that which I know how to do and they do not. I don't feel bad about charging them for my time and experience.

Again I stress this is an option. If you do not need or object to this option, don't avail yourself of it. But to come here and complain about someone who wants to offer several ways to get your questions answered on a wide range of topics, free and fee-based, is impolite and pointless.

Did I miss something? This is an option available to people who WANT to pay for advice right? If one still WANTS to offer free advice one CAN inside the forums and not charge anything. It has it's problems too, none of the least of which is speed. The concept is NOT charge for service, it's that people have asked for an avenue to OFFER to pay for advice and the concept was born. Speaking for myself, I use both. I offer free advice here for those who offer questions that I can answer, but also, for those willing to pay for it, I also offer my services there too..... I don't CHARGE any fee of any kind, they offer me money for the answer to their puzzling question. I look at it more like the tip you leave the local waitress for a job well done. She's isn't paid by me, but because she did an excellent job, I offer a tip to her. The harder my table was to wait on, IE....kids present making messes, or just hubby and I, and her ability to serve us accordingly warrents different sized tips. The harder the job or the better she does it the more she can make. SHE offers her services to my table whether I offer her a tip or not. I don't see the difference. I see nothing wrong with making money with my knowledge, schooling, and talents, nor does the waitress in this example.
