I'm looking for a very old (but still functional) laptop for OS design and debugging. I'm on a rather tight (re: nonexistant) budget though, so I'll take whatever I can get away with. Idealy it would be able to hold a charge of battery for a length of time. I could make due with an 8086, 186, or 286, but I'd really enjoy a 386 or a 486. It doesn't have to run any operating system other than DOS or a smaller Linux distro (maybe a LFS - Linux From Scratch.)
I want to have at least an outline for an OS before I enroll in college (majoring in Computer Science) in a few years. I'm 14 and currently enjoying my last 2 weeks of summer break. I'd use the laptop to do prototypes and such for the project. I don't want to run the risk of hosing my main system.
If anyone has anything they'd be willing to 'donate' to me, it would be greatly, greatly apprecieated.

Thank you for your time and consideration Lockergnomes.
