Its a fujitsu siemens amilo 1705 by the way.

Yesturday i was about to turn my laptop off and an error message came up. I didnt read it fully but it was something along the lines of 'out of memory'. As i was about to turn it off anyway i just ignored it and held the power button; MISTAKE.

An hour or so later i turned my laptop on, the normal screen saying 'Fujistu Siemens' along with 'boot menu F12' came up. After that it was just a blank screen, so i let it run and evetually after about 8/9 minutes a screen came up saying restore factory settings (i tried clicking cancel but it just shut down).

So i figured s***, i've lost all my stuff, so clicked continue and followed the process through. I tried to restore the factory settings but an error message came up ('error with data' or something to that affect).

So i tried installing linux (ubuntu to be precise). It was going ok and then said press enter to continue, i did, it rebooted and was back to square 1.

Please help.

Much thanks

Hello,

It sounds like the hard disk drive might be damaged. Try visiting Fujitsu-Siemens or the hard disk drive manufacturer's web site to see if there is a diagnostic program on a bootable CD or floppy diskette you can download and run to test for errors.
