Alright. I don't know what's up.

So I have a Dell Inspiron E1705, which means on the right screan hinge there are three little lights, one is for power, the second one is some cylindrical thing, and one is for battery life. When the power is low, the battery blinks annoyingly at me to charge it.

Well, today, i didnt notice the annoying [...deleted...] blink, and the computer went into hybernation mode, and i plugged in the cord, and turned off the computer.

Well, even when the computer was off, the light blinked crazily, and when i click on the battery checker thing under the laptop, instead of all five lights turing on only alternating ones turn on, like so:

o-o-o

and that has never happened! The battery is fully charged! I just don't know what it's acting this way!

Rawr! It's SO annoying the stupid blinking!

Also, my battery life is awful. It right now says 31mins (75%), shouldnt it be higher?

The cylindrical indicates hard drive activity.

Is the battery the original?

Aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored. A lithium-ion battery in use typically lasts between 2-3 years.

Hello,

As ZLim noted, that sounds about right amount of charge for a ~3 year old battery to have.

What you might want to do is make sure you have the latest device drivers for your Dell Inspiron E1705 installed, including the power management software, and then see if there is an option to "recondition" the battery to allow it to hold a greater charge. If not, or if it does not provide enough additional runtime, you could consider purchasing a new battery from the manufacturer.

Regards,

Did you try removing the battery for 5 minutes to let things reset, and then reinserting the battery? This sometimes restores freaked out circuitry.

Well, i let my laptop drain until it died compeletly, and it isnt flashing, but the whole problem with the charge lasting for such little time is supreamly annoying!

I know some of you have offered ideas, but can you elaborate on them a little? Razz l need a little help understanding.

Thank you for far!! <3

EDIT!

Crap i forgot to mention... yes this is the original battery. If i can recall, there was even a battery recall that i never sent my battery in for? but i dont remeber if this was before i got the laptop or not.

Letting things run until everything dies is never a good idea. There is a risk of damaging the battery or the equipment.

The likelihood is great that your battery is nearly dead, and you need to invest in a new one.

It is possible that the charging mechanism is broken and does not charge the battery sufficiently, but that is very unlikely compared to worn out battery. ( and bettery replacement would be cheaper than charger repair.

If you charge up the battery completely, does the flashing light come on again? Does the computer work correctly on the line power supply?

Yeah, the laptop doesn't flash, but the time i can have it unplugged is less than an hour, which i find very weird, because when i got it, it worked for atleast an hour, if i can recall...

Sounds like the shelf life has expired on the battery... depending on the make/model etc of the battery it only has so many hours of use and so many times it can be recharged.

My guess is, buy a new battery problem go "bye-bye" Wink
