this is a nice looking place you have here with some very helpful posts. Thankyou.
The monitor powers on but an image will flash on the screen then the screen goes dark. When Windows XP has loaded I can see a very dark image of the Windows display on the monitor. Pressing the monitor power button to off and then on gives a flash of an image like during computer power on.
I have had the monitor apart and it looks so nice and tidy in there I daren't throw this LCD monitor away.

| What Radeo forgot to clarify, is that your problem is most likely an intermittent back light (system). When you had it apart, was it possible to power it up to see if the back light was functioning? If not, it could be the light, the connecting ribbon, or the power source for the back light. Unless you are REALLY good at repairs, I would suggest a shop for this! |

15" LCD?
It's quite common for the backlight power supply on those monitors to go bad.
If you can even find one, you can probably replace it yourself.
But finding one is always the problem.
With only a 15" monitor, it's usually more cost effective and easier on the eyes if you'll just replace it with a 17" or 19" monitor.
Black Friday is coming next week and you'll be able to buy a new LCD monitor for a pittance. Check the sales.
I've personally thrown out a number of LCD monitors (given to me by my customers) with bad Backlight Power Supplies, just because replacements were not available.
Good Luck,

...I am in NewZealand. Maybe there will be some cheap sales here. I got the monitor to work ok after some forum help here in NZ. I replaced 2 bulged capacitors on the display board. Thank you |

Those dang'd capacitors again.
Is there one Chinese product that's not loaded with those things?
I recently scrapped out about 14 PC Power Supplies that had stopped working and every one had bulging capacitors. cheeeeeech!!!!
Good biz on the repair.
I'd wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, but you don't have that holiday in NZ, do you?
Blessings,

I believe the chinese manufacturers bid for huge contracts to build things like LCD monitors in China...so the winner of the contract is most probably found the cheapest source and used them in the product.
.....well, at least you or I can pick up the used and faulty ones and learn to repair...ooo!... and resell... ...here's hoping |

The bad capacitors problem is not restricted to just PC's and Monitors. It extends into all sorts of consumer electronics.
There's a story about how that came about and I can't remember all the minute details, but it goes something like this:
One Chinese capacitor manufacturer stole a formula to make cap's from another manufacturer, but the formula was incomplete. They got everything but the "Secret" ingredient. So their cap's break down under load and fail.
Whether true or false, it makes a good story anyway. Ya think?
Again, congrat's on your repair.
happy Holidays!

| I just replaced a bulging cap in my daughter's treadmill! It was on the circuit board that keeps track of your "mileage". Caused a load on the power supply, which blew the fuse! They were going to throw the treadmill out, all for a cap I pulled out of a dead PSU! Like the Doctor said - there are plenty of those hanging around. <grin> |

Hello,
Out of curiosity, how old was the monitor? Was it purchased sometime around 2004 (±1 year)?
Regards,
