MY LAPTOP'S KEYBOARD/KEYPADS IS NOT WORKING NO MORE!

well all i'm asking is for help or suggestions on what i shall do Crying or Very sad

the problem is, it won't function no more. when i try typing in WORD, no letters would come out! when i try pressing the function buttons, it would not work.
HELP what should i do?!

My laptop is a SAMSUNG Q35...i was cleaning my laptop using alcohol. I guess i did not realize that i placed too much alcohol on the keypads...what should i do? could i ever get it repaired? or is it terminal? Crying or Very sad

anyone? suggestions? please!? MY PARENTS ARE GONNA KILL ME! waaaaaaaah!

Have you contacted Samsung to see if the notebook computer is still under warranty? If so, perhaps you can have the keyboard repaired by them.

Allo Brokenlegend and welcome to the Lockergnome forum

Depending on what type of alcohol you used (it should be Isopropyl Alcohol, as used for cleaning tape-heads, CD/DVD drives etc.), it might be worth placing the laptop in a warm place, i.e. an airing cupboard - over a radiator (NOT on the radiator) and leaving for 24 hours to evaporate the alcohol off.

If you can open the laptop up ad remove the keyboard, it will help dry it out more.

If you used the wrong type of alcohol, it may well be a 'Samsung Repair Job' or a new keyboard.

I have a little Compaq lappy that got wet. It's keyboard and keypad won't work at all.

But......on the back is an input jack for a Keyboard/ Mouse.
I use a "Y" connector plugged into that socket and a PS2 Keyboard and PS2 mouse plugged into that "Y" connector. Now the little computer works like a charm. I didn't have to repair it or throw it away.

Just a thought!

Ah Shades of my checkered past!

A couple of years ago I spilled Red Wine into my keyboard. Now I am old school computers, and I "thought" the keyboard was sealed against
pass through" fluids. How wrong I was.

I have a Compaq Presario, 700US and I managed to find a manual online which described how to take it apart.

I tried washing it and the usual logical stuff, but eventually had to buy a new keyboard, which was only like about 40 bucks USD. But it took time, and I am comfortable with dismantling stuff AND putting it back together.

Some of the helpful comments I got was from this same very forum and the same folks offering suggestions to yourself.

My other problem, which was a bit more delicate, is that the keyboard is not sealed, and some of the wine "passed through" to the mother board, memory card, HDD cavity. Fortunately, the keyword is "some", and it almost works as good a "almost new".

Perhaps there is an "online" manual that can be found for your laptop?

But, AND then, you need to feel comfortable dismantling and reassembling?

I think the appropriate admonishment here would be:

Always, KEEP LIQUIDS AWAY FROM YOUR LAPTOP!

Most keyboards provide a very poor barrier against liquids passing all the way through to the motherboard.
Then it becomes a lot more than a keyboard problem.

In the case of my little Compaq lappy that got wet, and being an experienced electronics tech, I removed the keyboard and completely disassembled it, cleaned every part with denatured alcohol and a clean rag, then reassembled it.
After all that work, it still would not work.
It became very apparent that some of the water had gotten to the mobo.

The external keyboard jack still worked. (Thank You Lord! )
Had that jack not worked or had it not been present, I would have tried a USB Keyboard and mouse.

There is even a "Y" connector available that allows you to connect a PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse to a single USB port.

Off topic, just a little:
It's weird, but some of the new mobo's treat USB mice as if they were PS2 mice.
Witness: I run Ghost 2003 (from a DOS boot floppy) to backup my C: drive and I use a PS2 mouse, after loading the Mouse.com driver.
Recently I began using a USB (Microsoft Optical) mouse and lo and behold it works just fine in Ghost (DOS).
I didn't have to load any special USB drivers....never do.

Days? Did you say days?

A keyboard is made up of thin layers of plastic, sandwiched together. Get any liquid down into those layers and it could take months to dry out because there's NO air-flow in there.

keep it in a nice warm place and see if it recovers in time. Or do as I said and use an external keyboard.

If you've the time to spare (and a handy fan Wink

), it might be worth setting the fan to blow across the 'edge' of the keyboard/mobo layers, so the air-flow blows between the plastic skins/layers.

An oscillating fan would be ideal, as it can set up eddy-currents inside, helping to get to those awkward inaccessible corners and bits.
