I have a KVM switch on my computer so I can toggle between my work computer and home computer. Problem is that I can't toggle. I am suppose to be using the scroll lock key but it does nothing. Instead I have to shut one computer down entirely in order to use the other one.

It is a Belkin switch. The manual says to use the scroll lock key and then either the up or down arrow or 1 or 2. The IS dept at my work said to try the ctrl key after not having success with the
scroll lock key. None have worked so far. I have two computers and they are both running through a router so I can have my DSL on both. I don't know if that makes a difference in this case or not. It is a pain because my work computer takes forever to start up and I am having to shut down one in order to use the other. I am using a microsoft natural keyboard. I have a wireless keyboard also but it isn't a natural.

Any thoughts on how to fix it?

Did the switch ever work, or is it just recently installed?
What kind of plug is on the keyboard - USB or PS/2?
If the keyboard is a programmable keyboard - anything other than the basic - I would imagine that it would have to be installed on both computers.

Try your switch with a basic, no-frills keyboard and see if that works.

The model # on the KVM is F1DK102P. It didn't come with software, apparently is built in or is plug and play.

As Claymore stated, did it ever work?

I have seen 2 similar problems recently. A KVM between a Dell Optilexe and a HP something using the HP keyboard. Would not switch to the Dell machine. Installed a Dell keyboard and both were happy.

A Dell Optiplex (no KVM). Keyboard had gone bad. Customer plugged in a Compaq keyboard (from a working PC). Still wouldn't work. Dell sent out a new motherboard. Installed new motherboard and same results. Installed a Dell keyboard and it was happy???

I've used a no name keyboard and a IBM keyboard to switch between my home made VIA and my work Dell with no problem????

Try abother keyboard..

Hello,

From looking at the manual for the Belkin F1DK102P KVM switch, it says to press the Scroll Lock key twice within two seconds and then press the Up and Down Arrow (cursor) keys on the keyboard to switch between computers.

Hi,

Ran into the problems described above ("it won't work with the MS natural multimedia keyboard"), was disapointed and wanted to trade in the newly bought switch. Until I decided to install the software for the keyboard (which you don't need by the way) and also read the troubleshooting file attached to it. It discussed why the ScrLk key sometimes doesn't work: the function key has to be enabled to work!!

It works fine now for me!

Regards,
Chris

Only MS would sell people an expensive keyboard, with lots of keys and some don't work!
What is the procedure for getting the scroll lock key to work? (I file that fact away then hopefully if someone else has the same problem, I can remember where to search for it).
