Short time back I re-installed my Suse10.3. At that time I also opened and closed Kopete without making any changes.
Since that time I have not been able to re-open Kopete to set it up. I get a quick flash from the bouncing icon then nothing.

Can anyone help? Thanks

G'day FishyMike -

Try running "kopete" from a terminal & see if it gives you an error message. You may need to install some more libraries or plugins - the error message in the terminal should advise what it needs.

Seaeagles suggestion might help. Have you run it from a terminal window so you can see the errors?

That may be so, but in Linux it's darn near impossible to never touch a terminal -- Especially when troubleshooting a problem or performing an advanced operation.

If you absolutely won't touch the console, then you can try to delete your Kopete user settings, but good luck finding them. I spent a few minutes digging myself and it's nowhere as simple as deleting GAIM profiles.

You really do need to try the terminal option FishyMike. Otherwise you may be stuck. It's very easy to bring one up. If you use KDE, you should have a terminal button in your taskbar. Otherwise, if in Konqueror, you can just press F4 to bring one up. Then type kopete at the prompt and see what messages you get.

Even Windows users sometimes have to use the command line to fix a problem - just have a look in the HijackThis Logs forum for proof.

To delete your Kopete user settings, just go to /home/USERNAME/.kde/share/apps/kopete and delete or move whatever's in it. Restarting Kopete will then recreate new settings in your home directory.

I can type kopete in the terminal till Christmas and nothing happens, nor do I get any error messages. I deleted those user settings and still it won't open.
I have tried deleting the entire program through software management, but I cannot find kopete itself, just a few addons.

Thanks for any help.......

You might have uninstalled it in error if it's not in your installed programs list. I would check if it's in the list of available software and try reinstalling it.
