Ubuntu and the Crazy Mono
By Resu
If you've been reading some Ubuntu news lately you most likely have already heard of the whole fiasco/controversy going on about Mono.
What's Mono?
Well if you visit the home page they tell you:
"Mono is a cross platform, open source .NET development framework".
Oh -- Wait, what?
Basically it's a clone of the .NET framework, which was created by Microsoft.
Okay. So what's the problem here?... The default Ubuntu installation comes installed with two programs which are dependent on Mono, Tomboy and F-Spot, and it seems the community is very concerned that Microsoft might "attack" by doing what they know what to do best; suing.
Bad Monkey!
So you might think "Eek! Microsoft in Ubuntu. WHY?!?!".
Well first off it's not really Microsoft in Ubuntu, it's more of the "stench" of Microsoft in Ubuntu that's the problem...
You can definetily remove Mono if you wish but it might be kind of hidden for some of you guys and if you do, remember that all Mono dependent programs such as Tomboy and F-spot will be removed as well...
