| This thread is available for those that would like to give a little background of themselves and what brings them to the Political Geek Forum. I hope that it will allow us for more understanding of differing opinions and maybe even cut down on ad hominum arguments. Newcomers encouraged! If it serves as useful then maybe we'll Sticky it.
================
My name is Ben and I ended up in Lockergnome when a former webhost ran some ads through in their newsletters. I was immediately drawn to this section as I've been heavily involved in our College debate team. At the time of writing this I consider myself fairly centrist and an Independant, but if there's one thing I've learned in debate it's that I love to be convinced that I'm wrong... you just better do it well! I'm one of those people that sometimes falls into the "fiscally convservative, socially liberal" category, but I'll never sign off on a position without weighing out all sides. I enjoy this forum because I get to observe and participate in the weighing of those arguments each day, with intelligent members representing each position very well.

| I found Lockergnome a few years ago as a newbie to all things computer related. I think I probably saw it linked someplace else, but I can't remember for sure. I subscribed to a couple of the newsletters early on. But as Lockergnome grew more sophisticated and compartmentalized, I didn't care for the new format. So I stopped the subscriptions but I always popped into the forum now and then.
I don't remember how I ended up noticing the PG part of it. I think it was shortly after the 2004 election. I was struck by the lack of liberal voices on it. I think they'd all been pretty much run off at that time. So with great trepidation, I popped my head in. The friendly welcomes didn't last long, but that's okay, I came in a little strong and ready for bear in the beginning.
I have no delusions about changing the hardliners here, but they aren't going to run me off either.

Allo Gnomies
I'm WereBo and I cannot, for the life of me, remember how I found Lockergnomes . I think it was from a UK PC Mag, but then it might not.....
Although UK born and bred (N. Yorkshire Dales), I enjoy following the US politics and comparing the similarities with our UK mob of politicians.
My political views and tendencies are mostly sceptical tending to unclassifiable. Some things I'm conservative about, other things, I agree with 'The Left'. The rest, I'm either sorta Centrist' about, or I disagree with all of 'em... Whatever way I see it, I treat politicians with the deepest distrust, until they prove otherwise .... |

I had a question about something computer related, as well. I can't find where I posted it, though.
Now, I just noticed your PG and thought I'd drop in. I'm democrat and like mommabear find it fun to be in the minority. Although techincally, because Bush lost the popular vote both elections, we are the majority voice of America... |

Well I guess I'll join in here...
My name is Mike, or "Sgt Schultz". I've been here at Lockergnome board since it first came online. Chris mentioned it in the newsletter so I joined. It's come a long way since then. I'm also one of the contributors to the Political Geeks feed so I join in here at the forum since the two are related.
I'm a recently retired Air Force Master Sergeant who's political views dont' fall in line with any of the political parties here in the US. I usually consider myself a centrist/moderate though when it comes to social issues I tend to lean left of center. I don't believe that the "left" or "right" hold all the answers. Like Werebo I treat politicians with a deep distrust as I do with most people in positions of power. That may seem strange coming from a military man but after 20 years it's only reinforced my belief. My political loyalties belong to no party but to the US Constitution. |

The missing post is probably because of some forum glitches that have recently turned up. The technical guy who'd fix all this is traveling right now so it might be a few more days before it's straightened out. It may come back, or you might try asking again. Did you ask in a thread already established? You might try again using a new topic in the appropriate area.
Welcome too! |

A handy tip for members new and old, to quickly find all your posts....
If you click on your name that's underlined on the left there <-------------, it brings up your Lockergnome profile. On the profile page, is a line marked "Find all posts by xxxxx" which will do exactly that
Hope it helps |

Hi all,
Real Name is Phill - but call me what you will. I've been away for a while, but I already see a few familiar faces.
My Politics are fairly conservative, although I tend to be a little more liberal socially. I will make you mad, maybe smile and probably even call me an idiot, but I try to take a common sense view and can argue both sides of most issues. Don't worry though, you'll probably annoy me also.
I'm here to kill time, enlighten some, and maybe get some enlightenment myself. |

My name is Rick I reside in S.Maine in the U.S. and I have been a subscriber to Lockegnome for many years now but never bothered with the forums. Politically I lean conservative (some say so far right I can look through a keyhole with both eyes!) In actuality I am a Libertarian at heart and would prefer much less Gov. in my life! I also distrust politicians on both sides and I sincerely believe in term limits for all.
I have enjoyed jousting with some of you |

| My name is Bob. My views do not exactly match either side. I am somewhat a socially liberal, a fiscal Conservative, but I guess mostly I'm libertarian. I also retired from the US Army as a Sergeant Major, but I still work for a living. Currently I work as a contractor training soldiers. |
