Is there a way to import/convert a WORD table into an Excel document?

I'm stumped.

There may be different (and better ways) and depending on what version of MS Office you are using, but one way is to:

Save the word document, that contains the table, as a web page

In excel, use the Data >> Import External Data >> New Web Query option.

Hope this works for you. Cool

Why not just copy and paste?

Well, that's what I thought I could do.
But it would only paste the whole table into one cell.
So there must be something I'm missing or doing wrong.

What version of office are you using? I tried it three ways in office XP and didn't have a problem. I selected each cell, selected the entire table (with the little [+] that appears in the upper right corner), and selected the table and a blank row it the word doc above and below it.

As a matter of fact, no matter how hard I try, I can't copy a table into a cell. Excel doesn't like tables embedded into tables from what I remember.

You could try copying the word table, and in Excel select from the menu
Edit->Paste Special
Then select "text" as the paste format. You'll lose your formatting, but you should be able to fix that within Excel.

Thanks, I'll give "paste special" a try.

Wierdly "paste special " didn't do it. Maybe that's what I did last time. Because this time ordinary paste did.
I dunno.

A side issue about all this is that I couldn't find the right instruction in Help.
Oh well it's sorted now anyway. So thanks for all your kind help.
