| Ok so right now I'm on my itouch typing this because my computer can not connect to the Internet. I recently got a new computer because my old one was very.. Old. So I got the new one and it's fast and works beautifully. But I tried connecting it to my modem and it says that there is limited or no activity, which is weird because it worked fine connected to my old computer. By the way, I'm runnin on windows xp. The really weird thing is that it randomly works sometimes. Like this morning it was working, restarted the computer and it wouldn't work again. The computer sees that it's connected and says that there is 100 mps of speed, but I'm still not connected to the Internet. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, an error I get is that the network did not assign a network address, and that the ip address could not be renewed. Again, thank you for your help.

Try this.
Start Run type in CMD. Click OK or hit enter either way you get a command prompt.
Next type in "ipconfig" without the quotes and hit enter.
If you get an IP address that starts with 169 your computer isn't getting an IP address from your router. If you get a 192 address that's not the problem.
If you get a 169 IP address try typing ipconfig /renew there's a space between the ipconfig and the /
Post back with your results and maybe we can figure out what's going on.

Some cable & DSL modems detect the MAC address (a unique number assigned to every network adapter) of the attached device when they are powered up, and will only talk to that device afterward. Try cycleing power on the modem.
And, please tell me you are using some type of broadband router between your PC and the internet. |

| Power down the modem for about a minute, so it forgets the MAC address. Then power it up and attach the new computer. |

I don't think it's a Mac address thing or it would never work but powering down the modem is not a bad suggestion.

Patrick, where are you?
Did any of the suggestions help you?
I've seen the same thing you're seeing but for the life of me, I can't remember what I did to fix it. Probably one of the above fixes.
