running 64 bit Ultimate, 8 G ram, and all seems fine so far except IE8 is really slow to open. Same thing occurred with IE7. FF seems to work ok. Problem is, many of the sites I must visit require IE. Anyone have any suggestions or some of the same issues? Thanks in advance for any replies.
PS - I forgot to mention that this occurs with both 32 bit & 64 bit versions of IE |

I've had the exact same problems. IE stinks. I even have the homepage set to blank, but it doesn't help. |

I won't use I.E. anything, it's the most UN-Safe browser ever.
(appologies, to Brother Bill and all those I.E. fans out there)
I use only Firefox, now testing the FF 3.5 beta4 version, which is working great.
When installing FF for myself or a customer, I always install the Flash and Shockware add-ons.
Then I install the "I.E. Tab" add on.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
That allows FF to go to sites, even "MS Update", that require the attributes (active X) that are inherent in I.E.
I add the I.E.Tab icon to the tool bar right next to the "Home" icon.
Whenever I need to go to an I.E. only site, I just click the little I.E.Tab icon and go ahead to my "I.E. Only" site.
I removed the big blue " e " from my desktop a very long time ago.
I've not had to actually open I.E. in so long, I can't even remember it.
Oh, by the way, I.E. 7 screwed up my Outlook Express 6, so I uninstalled it and now the only I.E. I have on my PC is I.E.6.
Granted, when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64, RC1, I.E.8 installed, but I don't use it either.....Only Firefox.
I guess it's like the old saying, "Once bitten, twice shy".
I've even blocked I.E. updates from loading during "Auto Updates".
Good Luck, and happy computing,
The Doctor |

goretsky - MS One Care. Been in touch with MS and worked through the normal procedures for clearing cache & cookies, etc., but not much improvement. I'm open to any ideas.
Doc - I've tried the FF addon and it works for some sites, but not all. Many of my customers are unable to substitute FF for IE, so that's not an option in this case.
There's got to be a solution for this issue. I know it's an ongoing issue for many by the posts I've read in my research. I was hoping for a colaboration of minds here to find it.
Thanks to all who have replied and offered help. It's much appreciated. |

I you have ever used Spybot Search and Destroy on this computer, then the problem is with the size of the Restricted Zone. It probably has more than 10,000 items, and this slows IE 7 or 8 to a crawl.
Use the method suggested by Vibo, or install Zoned Out and use it to clear the restricted zone. Get it at http://www.funkytoad.com/
Hopefully Safer Networking and/or Microsoft will fix this soon. |

Tried that, no luck. IE still sucks.
I use IE tab as much as possible, too. It's still slow, but at faster than IE itself. |

Hello,
Does it make a difference if you start Internet Explorer in No Add-Ons Mode?
